As a former college hockey player and coach this is one of my favorite times of the year - opening weekend of college hockey season.
As an Associate Athletics Director at Holy Cross, not only do I obviously see the Crusaders play, and games that are played nearby, but I watch any game that my television can bring to me. I am always interested to see how teams progress as the season moves along.
As the chair of the 2009-10 NCAA Division I Men's Ice Hockey Committee, I spent two days this week in Detroit on a site visit with members of the NCAA National Office Staff. One of the main things I wanted to see for myself was what the sight lines were going to be like for our fans. I want to assure you, after seeing it for myself, the sight lines in the new configuration are outstanding. There will be absolutely no issues with viewing any part of the game, and it will be very similar to watching in an NHL arena from a sight-line standpoint.
I also want to comment on how impressed I was with the people with met with over the two days (CCHA commissioner Tom Anastos and his staff, along with the Ford Field staff and the people from Detroit Sports) and their commitment to making this a truly special Frozen Four.
All of our fans who attend the 2010 Frozen Four will not be disappointed. I will be sure to use the blog to update our fans and the season progresses with my thoughts and comments on issues as they arise.
