No. 1 Iowa moved to 15-0 and improved its unbeaten streak to 53 with a 36-0 shellacking of Michigan. The Wolverines host Minnesota today.
Second-ranked Iowa State opened its weekend trip through Oklahoma with a 21-12 win over the 10th-ranked Sooners (12-2-1) in Norman. The Cyclones (8-2) won five straight bouts to take a 21-6 lead including top-ranked Jake Varner's 9-3 win over No. 6 Eric Lapotsky at 197. Varner moved to 19-0. ISU is at No. 4 Oklahoma State on Sunday.
No. 5 Minnesota had to rally to beat Michigan State, 18-16, in East Lansing. Nick Palmieri's decision of Caleb Young at 174 gave the Spartans a 16-12 advantage but the Gophers (6-4) got wins from Sonny Yohn at 197 and Ben Berhow at heavyweight to escape the upset. UM did not suit up Jayson Ness (133) or Dustin Schlatter (165).
No. 6 Cornell (3-3-1) and No. 8 Lehigh (11-3-1) battled to a 15-15 draw in Ithaca. The Mountain Hawks rallied with wins in the final three bouts including Joe Kennedy's overtime win at 197 over Cam Simaz, who entered ranked fifth and with just three losses. Top-ranked Mack Lewnes' narrow win over freshman Robert Hamlin at 174 gave the Big Red a 15-6 advantage but Lehigh senior David Craig started a run of three straight wins that finished with Zach Rey's 3-1 win over Josh Arnone at 285.
No. 11 Indiana suffered its first loss in 12 duals, falling to No. 14 Wisconsin, 21-18, in Madison. Trevor Brandvold's major decision at 197 gave the Badgers (6-5) a 21-15 lead and second-ranked Hoosier heavyweight Nate Everhart was unable to pin Eric Bugenhagen in the final bout.
A banged up Maryland squad minus three starters fell to Navy, 19-14, in Annapolis. Matt DeMichel's win at 174 gave the Midshipmen a 19-11 lead with one bout to wrestle. The Terps fell to 13-3 and face North Carolina State today.
No. 13 Penn State moved to 9-3-1 with a 24-11 win over Illinois in State College. Adam Lynch pinned Ryan Prater at 141 to spark the Nittany Lions, who wrestle at No. 3 Ohio State on Sunday.
Clarion beat a struggling West Virginia, 20-14. The Mountaineers fell to 0-7.
Filip Novachkov's 1:00 pin highlighted 16th-ranked Cal Poly's 28-11 win over Stanford. Novachkov improved to 18-4 and the Mustangs are 6-2 entering Sunday's match against No. 9 Boise State in San Luis Obispo. Boise State moved to 9-2 with a 28-15 win over CS-Fullerton on Friday.
No. 15 Missouri hammered Hofstra, 34-7, in Hempstead, N.Y.
