3 in a row for Boise?

robles 2.JPGBoise State has won the last two Pac-10 Championships, running away from the field in 2009 by 44.5 points. When the 2010 Pac-10's kick off Friday at UC-Davis, the Broncos will again be the favorites.

Greg Randall's squad finished 15-3 in duals this season and remained ranked among the NWCA Top 15 all season. BSU had eight ranked in the second Wrestling Coaches' Panel Rankings and could have as many as five champions this weekend. A year ago, the Broncos had six champions.

133-pounder Andrew Hochstrasser, an All-American last season, has wrestled just nine matches. The junior was a national qualifier in 2005 before going on a Morman mission. He has been injured much of this season. Will he wrestle this weekend? If the junior does not, the team race could be a lot closer.

Adam Hall (25-2 at 157) and Kirk Smith (22-0 at 184) are both ranked among the Top 5 for the Bronchos.

UC-Davis' Brandon Low, another member of the nation's Top 20 at 133, has also battled injuries. He's wrestled just seven matches.

The bigger news for the West Coast is the possible number of allocations. In 2009 the Pac 10 received just 20 spots. This Thursday's allocation release should see the Pac 10 with anywhere from 32 to 37. Good news for a part of the country struggling to get national attention.

The conference had eight All-Americans in 2009. Four return -- ASU's Anthony Robles (125) and Chris Drouin (141), Hochstrasster (133) and Cal Poly's Chase Pami (157).

There will be a few long faces this weekend as Bakersfield recently announced it was discontinuing wrestling due to budget constraints. The Roadrunners have a strong wrestling history, winning the Pac 10 title in 1999 and 8 NCAA Division II championships before joining D-I. CSB produced one of the sports' best heavyweights, Stephen Neal, and the current Cal Poly coach, John Azevedo, was a national champion for the Roadrunners during his wrestling days.

Can anybody challenge Boise this weekend? Yes.

Jim Zalesky's Oregon State Beavers probably have the best shot. OSU was 18-3 in duals and own 17 all-time Pac 10 trophies, the last one coming in 2007. The Beavers, with an upset or two, could challenge for top honors.

Colby Covington is 35-5 at 174; Jason Lara is 31-6 at 125; and Kelly Kubec (133), Keegan Davis (157) and Clayton Jack (285) also have 30 wins each.

Cal Poly, with Boris and Filip Novachkov at 133 and 141, respectively, and Pami at 157, will be in the mix. That trio is a combined 65-13.

Arizona State brings All-Americans Anthony Robles (25-2 at 125) and Chris Drouin (18-9 at 141).

Stanford has had a good season. Nick Amuchastegui (27-4 at 165) and Zack Giesen (27-4 at 184) will battle for top honors.

Bakersfield, CS-Fullerton and UC-Davis round out the field for the two-day tournament.

Predicted order of finish:

Boise State, Oregon State, Cal Poly, Stanford, Arizona State, UC-Davis, Bakersfield, CS-Fullerton.

Wrestling fans can log on to the UC-Davis website and view the event.

No Hochstrasser this year. He is short on school credits and is ineledgible.

Oregon State is coming to dominate. The pin leader for the PAC-10 will turn the competition into golden points for the win!

GO BEAVS!

Who the heck are these "Bronchos" that you referred to here???

Boise State's mascot is the BRONCO....at the very least you need to check your spelling.

At least I know somebody is reading this blog. I was going to put Bronko instead of Broncho instead of Bronco instead of Bulldog.

THE BRONCOS will win their third straight PAC 10 wrestling championships with or without Hochstrasser in the lineup.

I believe it will also be the BRONCO'S sixth PAC 10 wrestling championship this century (since 1999).

Boise State's BRONCOS will win championships at 141 lbs, 149 lbs, 157 lbs and 184 lbs minimum. And if Hochstrasser is in the lineup they will win at 133 lbs too.
