The Air Force team (in white) won the AT&T charity match

As fans exited from the St. Pete Times Forum this afternoon, they found that a SportCourt had been laid atop the concrete in the West Plaza outside the facility for a special charity match sponsored by AT&T. Local members of the United States Air Force and U.S. Marine Corps squared off in an outdoor volleyball match that drew many spectators. The Air Force squad - coached by Florida head coach Mary Wise - eventually rallied to prevail by a 15-11 score in the decisive third set of the match. John Speraw - head coach of the 2009 NCAA champion UC Irvine men's volleyball team - coached the Marines.
The MacDill Air Force team earned a check from AT&T that will go towards Toys for Tots. AT&T's Blocks for Tots program also offered to make a further donation to Toys for Tots, based on the number of blocks in the match. Unofficially, that donation will be $250. All of the money will go towards buying new toys and stuffed animals for kids of all ages in Tampa during the holiday season.
