During yesterday's game against Charlotte, we were graced by the presence of one only known to the team as the "uh-huh" guy. The last three years, I have only seen him at games against Charlotte and Miami. He has yet to cheer for Carolina, but I think he has a secret crush on us. The "uh-huh" guy receives his nickname because after everything he says comes the phrase "uh-huh." He also carries about 10 different signs with his favorite phrase on it in different colors and designs. Also, he's the loudest person in the crowd so a typical heckle might sound like, "He's gonna walk him uh-huh. Unload and reload uh-huh. Time to start a rally uh-huh." In the end, it's one of those things you can enjoy as a fan or player.
Tuesday night, we had the opportunity to play in front of a record crowd at UNC Wilmington. I think half of them were on the pass list under Garrett Gore's name. The highlight of the bus ride to the game was a "rap battle" between Chase Jones and Logan Munson. Basically, it was a back and forth putdown session consisting of four line rhymes. Chase started out strong, but I believe it was ruled a tie after Logan finished strong. The subject matter varied from body shapes to former relationships.
In response to a comment last week:
Best walk-out song: My favorite would probably be Nate Striz's (Hillbilly Deluxe - Brooks and Dunn) because the song fits his personality perfectly. A lot of teammates also like Brian Moran's (The Rising -Bruce Springsteen).
Nastiest Pitch: There are many to choose from, but a few to note are Matt Harvey's curveball, Alex White's splitter, and Colin Bates' two-seamer.
Reason why coach won't let me hit: Believe me, you don't want to see me pinch hitting anytime soon. I was an average high school hitter, but I always struggled with velocity and sliders. I bet you would never guess that I was a middle infielder in high school when I wasn't pitching.

A Dogg. Great stuff on the blog. Glad to hear that the team is not and should not be panicking. Uh-Huh ! I stopped by The Bosch yesterday and dropped off this years TarHeel 09 rhyme into the hands of one T. Lusk & N. Yarborough. Actually me, Taron, Coach Mckay, and Mark "McFlurry" listened to it in the equipment room. Hope yall like it and hope it helps to inspire some Fantastic play this weekend against the Cavaliers.
Stay Positive and I'll see you and the StarHeels on the diamond---UH-Huh !

Thanks for writing this blog Adam! Its great to get an inside look at UNC baseball. I have followed UNC sports my entire life and always find it difficult to follow you all during the baseball season with little tv coverage but the unc website and your blog really help us through the season.
Good luck!
Your blog has really been a nice addition to the website this year. You guys really work hard and have a lot of fun together. It's nice to read about that!
Keep up the good work, on the field and off!
The Bates
what is mike cavasinni's walk out song?
I hear the Uh-Huh guy is an elementary school principal somewhere in Cabarrus County. He started coming to the Concord High School football games when I was a junior or senior, so about four years ago. He's become a bit of a mascot for the students there since he first appeared.
Adam,
What a great job you are doing with this blog! It is so unique to read these posts and to know what you guys do off the field. It adds to a fan's perspective of why you guys are so close and why you have so much fun together. A baseball team can be a good one, but our UNC Tarheels are like no other because of the fun you guys have and how you watch out for each other.
Keep up the good work and keep having fun!

I am a senior in high school and just received a scholorship (acedemic) to a D-III school in Ohio. Except for his last two years in HS I have played baseball (competitive league) since I was 8yrs old. I'm a pretty good ball player and think I may want to try out for the university team next year. Can you tell me a little of what you have experienced and enjoyed about playing college baseball?
Respectfully,
Joe
Adam -
Congratulations on CLASS nomination. You deserve it.
Thanks for the blog - we are enjoying the connection. Looking forward to your trip north for the ACC championships in May. Send details when you get them.
Don't sweat the recent slide - better to get it out of the way now. The team will be better for it later.
Tell Matt we said heh, uh-huh.
Best -

Adam, I am a 1969 graduate from UNC and have followed UNC baseball since the mid-60's. I really enjoy your blog. I want you to keep your head up. You have a quality team with quality players and a quality coach. Even if you allowed three runs yesterday, the Heels would have lost. You have my best regards
