Wow sorry about the late blogging, it's been pretty hectic but let me give you all an update about the season.
The Florida trip was a great experience for every single player on the team. A lot of the younger kids got a lot of needed innings to work out the kinks. It was a productive trip and we finished the week 8-2. On Tuesday we played Springfield at their place and pulled out a squeaker, 9-8. Its Friday night at 9:00 pm and we just finished up a well-played 9 inning game against Nescac opponent Bowdoin. We won 5-3 as Jeremiah Bayer pitched an unbelievably flawless complete game with 13 k's.
The satisfying part about playing for a team like Trinity is that every day either at practice or at games you can see each player making every effort to improve in some way. Whether it be in the dugout picking up a teammate after a tough inning, or infielders getting more and more comfortable with fielding balls aggressively. The devotion and desire is all there and it is an absolute joy to watch my teammates and I make that effort everyday.
We are currently 1 and 0 in the NESCAC with a doubleheader against Bowdoin tomorrow to finish out the three game set. Every game is absolutely important to win, but NESCAC games have a different "air" about them. Due to the brevity of our season, going undefeated in the conference helps deal with any anxiety about making the conference playoffs. Each weekend, every team knows that this weekend could make or break their respective seasons. Today was no different for us. Jeremiah's performance was exactly what we needed along with a few timely hits that provided some valuable offense. Our hitters are tremendous, almost every batter, every inning has the potential to start something "electric." It is unbelievable playing for a team like that.
Our team is different from last year or the year before or even the year before that. And its fantastic that, that is the case. It makes each season that much more interesting. This year we have a lot of great young talent. A few young pitchers have really stepped up and performed with the experience of veterans. Last years team was last years team, and trying to compare this team to our National Championship Team doesn't make any sense, and every player on the team knows that. That's what will supply this team with the extra "intangibles" that will push us towards our successes. Our team moves forward everyday looking towards the next inning the next pitch or the next ground ball and not backwards to past events.
I'll let you know how the weekend goes, hopefully we'll keep that zero in the conference loss column.
