Battle of the Boulevard

So I am sitting here with my roommate, Keaton Belcher, watching a dvd called, 'The History of the University of Kentucky Basketball.'  KB is a blue-and-blue through-and-through.  Since both of my parents went to Kentucky, I also claim the cats.  So this is our little tradition (started by J Hare and yours truly last season).  We watch some sort of basketball video before every home game.  On Saturday we put the Magic Johnson video in.  It served us well, as we got a solid win against the Fighting Camels of Campbell.  We had to bust out the Kentucky video for the Battle of the Boulevard.  Fort those of you who don't know, the Battle of the Boulevard is the rivalry game between Belmont and Lipscomb.  Both schools are on the same street about two miles apart from each other.  The street's name is Belmont Boulevard by the way.  That's neither here nor there, because every year it really is a battle.  I can remember that when I was senior in high school the rivalry started back again.  When Belmont had made the jump to division one, the rivalry took about a 7 or 8 year rest.  It started back in 03-04 i believe.  It was crazy, something like 4 out of the first 6 games since the rivalry started back, went into overtime.  I can remember my high school coach, Kerry West, who played for Belmont back in the mid 90's, played in a Battle of the Boulevard that took place in Memorial Gym (Vandy's home court) and it was sold out.  The attendance was something like 15,000.  It is always a good game regardless of how good each team is.  And tonight is the big battle.  It is at Belmont too, and being a senior I can't lose this one.
I was also very fortunate to break 1,000 points last game.  I am very proud of this accomplishment, but believe it is more of a reflection of the great teammates I have had rather than my ability to score the basketball.  It is pretty easy to stand on the three point line, waiting for someone like Henry Harris, Alex Renfroe, or Brian Collins to draw all the defense and then find you wide open on the wing.  Well, i hope everyone comes out the game tonight. And as always, Go Bruins!

"The Battle" is over and you, as Captain, would not let us lose. Your 25 points, big 3s, steals, assists, energy, passion, and leadership were a 'thing of beauty' and a joy to behold! Congratulations on another big night for the BRUINS!!
And, congrats on joining the 1,000 point club!

Congratulations on the win! You had a great game. 26 points...WOW! Good luck on Saturday at USC Upstate.

Yeah Wicke!!! Congrats on the 1000!! You carried us man!

Andy,

KB is a good friend of mine and he invited me to watch you at UT. My cousin and I made the journey to Knoxville and enjoyed the contest. Ever since Keaton started attending Belmont I have kept up with the Bruins. Congrats on your 1000 pts. and Good Luck the rest of the season!

P.S.
Tell KB to bring me to Belmont, so I can teach you both a lesson on shooting the basketball.. :)

Andy,
Just wanted you to see "things" from a freshman parent point of view. I remember thinking how relaxed I would be to watch Belmont games this year as opposed to Mick's HS games. WRONG!! I have gotten so uptight and nervous as the season progresses at Belmont. The reason is that I have gotten to know your parents as well as the Renfoe's, Dotson's, Dr. & Mrs.Fisher, "John", Ms. Betty, etc... and feel as if I know the team personalities much better (as well as the coaches and families). Everyone of you have made my husband and I feel so very welcome and a part of the Bruins. More than that, I see how Mick has developed such close friendships and has grown so much in such a short time as a player and man. This is because of the examples that you and the other seniors have shown (not just on the court but more importantly off the court). You are all truly a big family and I am so proud that we are a part of that. Thanks so much for your hospitality and making us feel so welcome. We wish only the best for you during the remaining season and days after Belmont!
The strength of the TEAM is each individual member...
the strenth of each MEMBER is the team
Phil Jackson

The strength of the TEAM is each

This is because of the examples that you and the other seniors have shown (not just on the court but more importantly off the court!!!
