April 2009 Archives

Yesterday we finished up our regular season by beating Morrisville 22-0.  Earlier in that week, on Thursday, we got a big win over St. Lawrence 13-4 and on Tuesday we beat Brockport 14-2.  We have been coming out with great intensity from the first whistle to the last and have had great momentum this entire week.  We are taking this intensity and momentum with us into our next phase of the season, the SUNYAC's.

Things are starting to wrap up here with school as we head into the last full week of school.  Finals are just around the corner and every class seems to have a project or something else due.  As school is ending we start up something very big.  On Wednesday we start with the SUNYAC semi-final round by playing Oswego as we make our run to become SUNYAC Champs.  We are taking one step at a time and right now our objective is to get the SUNYAC title.  See you next week.

This past week was a solid one for the Cortland Red Dragons.  We played Oswego at home and got the win 12-2.  We then took a little ride over to Oneonta and got a W in an 18-8 victory.  In both of these games this week we came out battling and it has really helped us to get back in that groove that we need to be in.  With two more SUNYAC wins under our belt we head into another big week of games.

This week, starting tomorrow, we have three games.  We play Brockport tomorrow at our house at 4pm and then on Thursday we play home again against St. Lawrence at 4pm.  We then finish up the week with a Sunday game at Morrisville starting 10am.  This week is very big for us Dragons as we look to get 3 more wins and finish up the regular season strong.  See you soon.

On Wednesday we lost to Geneseo at their place 8-6.  We didn't play our game and it showed but we'll most likely see them again soon.  On a better note, we had two great practices and got the win on Saturday against Plattsburgh.  We played much better this game and started looking like the real dragons that we know we can be.

On Friday we had a 5 hour hike up to Plattsburgh.  We decided to switch things up a little and make our dress theme for the bus ride; flannel shirts.  Everybody had nice looking flannels and we looked great as a team.  I decided to give some awards out for flannels.

1.      Most Original- Coach Abbott

2.      Looked the strangest in- Condor

3.      Most likely to find wearing again- Jake

Now we start a new week that is very important.  Two more games in the SUNYAC.  We have Oswego home at 4pm and Oneonta at their place at 1pm.  See you soon.

I woke up Saturday morning to snow on the ground and saying to myself, "come on its April."  After a great Nuebig breakfast I made my way down to the stadium.  For a second we didn't know if we were going to be able to play.  There were some serious winds and the snow was still falling.  By the time the plowing of the field was done, the snow and wind had slowed down a lot.  At this point it was time to take care of business.

We opened our SUNY Season Playing the Potsdam Bears.  In the first half things weren't falling the way we wanted them to.  We went into the locker room down by one goal at halftime.  We usually tend to step it up to another level in the second half of our games, and that is exactly what we did.  After a quick talk we regained our composure and came out and played our game in the second half.  We got the win over the Potsdam 11-5.  Tomorrow we are playing Geneseo at their place at 3:30pm.  We also have a Saturday game at Plattsburgh's house starting at 1pm.  Talk to you next week.
