Farewell and thank you!

On March 22, our basketball career at Liberty came to an end when a very strong Louisville team defeated us in the NCAA Tournament. It's sad to see it end, but we are all thankful for how God has blessed our team over the past four years, and we look forward to see what He has in store next for each of us. Thank you so much for all of your prayers, encouragement and support. It means more to us than you will ever realize. So, without further ado, here is our final blog entry. Enjoy!

What will you remember most about the trip to Baton Rouge for the NCAA Tournament?

Megan: The trip to Baton Rouge was amazing! I knew that it could be my last trip with the girls, so I wanted to cherish it. It was amazing to get to spend time with my teammates. It was our first flight as a team this season, which added more excitement to the trip.  To top it off, it was a charter flight, which was AMAZING.

Moriah: I really enjoyed the weather in Baton Rouge.  It was nice to not have to wear a jacket and be able to wear flip-flops.  Secondly, it was a great trip to end my four years at Liberty.  We were able to fly as a team, eat some great food and stay in a great hotel.  I was even Meg's roommate, which was fun too. Also, our family flew down to watch us play which was really neat.  They did not miss an entire game this whole season.  Lastly, my sisters and I were able to visit with one of our friends from Ohio who we had not seen in over a year.  It was so much fun!

Molly: I will remember all of the wonderful food and fellowship that we had. We also had good devotionals!

Looking back at this season as a whole, what were some of the primary highlights for you, both on and off the court?

Megan: Some primary highlights for me were simply just getting to know one another on the team!  It was so fun getting to go through the highs and lows of the season together. I feel like we have been able to grow so close to each other as a result of the different trials we had to endure and persevere through.

Moriah: I would say on the court would be winning the Big South and winning the Virginia Tech tournament.  Off the court would be just being able to hang out with my teammates.

Molly: Off the court would probably have to be our little team bonding times and the workout where we all did the Cupid Shuffle. My best time for me on the court was getting to play with my two sisters, Meg and Mor.

What are your best on-the-court memories during your time as a Lady Flame?

Megan: My best on-the-court memories would be, of course, the three conference basketball championships we won!  I would also have to say beating Virginia at their place as well as winning the Xavier Tournament were amazing memories.

Moriah: Playing at some awesome arenas and against some great players.  I would say though, that one of my favorite wins was last year when we played in a tournament at Xavier.  It was so much fun, because we upset Xavier and a lot of my family and friends were able to come to the game because it was so close.  My favorite road trip though, was when we went to Cancun our sophomore year.  We stayed an extra day and we were able to enjoy some sun.

Molly: When we won both the Xavier tournament and the UNLV tournament during our junior year.

What are your best off-the court memories during your time as a Lady Flame?

Megan: My best off-the court memories would be paintballing in the summer, hanging out at Camp Hydaway, and just being able to hang out with a great group of girls!

Moriah: Honestly, building some lifelong friendships and being taught by some awesome professors in the nursing department.  I have also enjoyed being able to do clinicals in the hospital and making an impact on my patients' lives.

Molly: I enjoyed all of the laughter and many wonderful memories that I will treasure for a lifetime!

What has this group of classmates meant to you?

Megan: This group of classmates has been so much fun.  Being able to get to know five quality girls and then adding a sixth this year has been great!  Of course, being able to get to play with my sisters is something I will cherish the rest of my life!  I thank the Lord for the many blessings He allowed the seven of us to experience while here at Liberty.

Moriah: I have had the privilege of playing with an awesome group of seniors, which includes two of my sisters.  I have made some lifelong friendships and I am going to cherish those.  I can't wait to see how God is going to use our class in the future.

Molly: It has been great getting to be with the same group of girls for four years, and being able to be there for each other in the good times and the tough times!

What does the future hold in store for you?

Megan: I am on track to graduate this spring with a degree in kinesiology, and I am specializing in physical education and health.  I would love to keep playing basketball after college.  I am open to what the Lord would have me do, and I am relying on Him to lead me in my next steps!

Moriah: I am on track to graduate in December 2009.  After graduating, I plan on working in a hospital but at this point I am not exactly sure where or in which area.  I had a rotation on the PCU (Progressive Coronary Unit) and I really liked it, so that is one area that I may be interested in pursuing.

Molly: I will graduate in December with a degree in nursing! I am excited to see how the Lord will use that. I love being able to help people in their time of need. I am not sure if it will be here in Lynchburg, or elsewhere, but I am open to wherever the Lord leads me!

Big South Champs!

20080911_6189LS Molly Frazee web.jpgHey family, friends and fans. I am on the way back from an exciting weekend! I want to start off by saying thank you to all the fans, both at the game and watching at home, for all the prayers, support and encouragement throughout our season and during the tournament. It has been an exciting ride, and we are not done yet!

In our first Big South Tournament game, we played Charleston Southern and won by 10 points. The next day, we played Winthrop in the semifinals and won by 19 points.

Finally, we played Gardner-Webb in the championship game. Even though they came into the tournament as a No. 6 seed, they gave us two tough games during the regular season! So, we knew it was going to be a battle going into the game. Some of the players got into foul trouble early on in the contest, and we found ourselves down by five at halftime.

In the second half, we knew we had to come back strong. We went up by 10 points with a little over seven minutes to go, and then only scored four points during the remaining time! As a result, we only led by one point with a little over 20 seconds left. It was Gardner-Webb's ball, and they were able to advance it up the court with about 12 seconds left. Coach Green called a timeout, and we knew our only chance was not to foul.

A girl from Gardner-Webb ended up driving it in to the hoop, but was not able to finish it. As soon as we knew we won, everyone started jumping up and down. It was hard to believe that we had actually pulled through and won! We are so excited to see who and where we will play in the NCAA Tournament! For those of you who are interested, the selection show is on ESPN at 7 p.m. this evening.

womensbasketball-special-09bsccelebration1-large.jpg
Once again, I know I speak for the entire team in that we want to give all of the honor and glory to God. He alone deserves all of the praise! While I personally was not able to play, I am so thankful that everyone stayed safe! The Lord has blessed our team in tremendous ways, and He is not done yet.

I personally want to say a special thank you to Dan Bullen and his fiancée for coming. He coached us in AAU and is a great family friend! I also want to say thank you to the McMillons and the Carters. Also, thank you to everyone else's friends and family who came! Thanks to Sparky and the cheerleaders, who came back early from break to cheer us on! You don't realize how much it meant to all of us!

Our season continues! Please keep our team in your prayers!

Molly

Tournament Time

20080911_6202LS (Megan Frazee hs web).jpgThis is Megan Frazee again!  This week is our Spring Break, so it has been nice not having to worry about school and just be able to focus on basketball.  We wrapped up our regular-season conference schedule over the weekend.  Saturday, we played at Radford and won pretty convincingly.

Last night, we played at High Point.  It was a tough battle throughout the entire game, but we ended up on the short end, losing a close game.  Honestly, as much as I don't like to lose, I think the loss was a good heart check for our team.  It was our first loss all year in our conference, but I think it will help us realize as a team, that nothing is handed to us!  It is important that we learn lessons from this game, individually and collectively as a team.

I am excited for the upcoming Big South Tournament this weekend.  We have earned the No. 1 seed in the tournament, which is extremely nice.  We will be playing Charleston Southern on Friday at noon at High Point.  High Point will host the Big South Tournament for the next two years.

womensbasketball-action-meganfrazee44-large.jpg
I encourage you to follow us as we play in the conference tournament this weekend.  Games will be played Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, with the championship game at 4 p.m. on Sunday.

I want to thank all of our fans this year, as you have supported us through the ups and downs of this season!  I am excited to see what the Lord has in store this weekend for our team.

Go LADY FLAMES!!!!

Senior Night

20080911_6198LS (Moriah Frazee) hs web.jpgHello again from Moriah Frazee. It is hard to believe that I just played my last game ever in the Vines Center last night.  My four years here have flown by.

Our last two home games in the Vines Center were against UNC Asheville and Presbyterian.  Both games were pretty much decided by halftime, who was going to win.  It gave the people on the bench a lot more playing time, which was nice.  This also means that we finished the year undefeated in conference play on our home court.

On Saturday, we played UNC Asheville, which was our Senior Night.  It was neat to see all of the seniors' parents and families, who came in for the game.  After the game, we had a time of food and fellowship on the Vines Center concourse.

We had some friends visit from Ohio, who we had not seen in several years.  The husband of the family used to coach our brother in high school, and they were great family friends of ours.  It was neat to catch up with them and find out what is going on in their lives.

We also had a couple come from Indiana to watch us play on Senior Night.  The husband of that family was one of our dad's closest friends growing up, and we have gotten to know their family pretty well too.

Lastly, one of our classmates who we graduated with from Xenia Christian in Ohio, came to watch us play with his parents.  They have been avid fans of ours since we started playing at Xenia Christian our senior year.  It was nice to see them too. We had so many great supporters at Xenia Christian.

These four years here at Liberty have helped me become a stronger person, not only physically, but also mentally, spiritually and socially. As with all of life, there are always good times and bad, but for me there are definitely memories that I will never forget.  I have had the privilege of playing with some great girls and have had some wonderful coaches.  I will have some lifelong friends.

As some of you know, Lynchburg got hit with snow on Sunday.  It is the first really big snow that I have seen in my four years here.  It kind of reminded me of Ohio.  When I went to bed Sunday night, there was about three inches on the ground.  When I woke up, we probably had 9-12 inches of snow.  It is so pretty to see everything covered with a blanket of white.  We also had classes canceled yesterday and today, we have a two-hour delay. So, I am not complaining. Then, we have spring break coming up next week, so that is even better!

Well, I want to close my blog by saying a quick thank you to all of the fans who came out and watched us play this season, both at home and on television.  We all really appreciate it.  We have two more conference games left, and then we start the Big South Tournament next Friday, Saturday and Sunday.  I can't wait. It will be a lot of fun!  Lord willing, we will be in the Big Dance. I hope you all have a good week, and I will talk to you soon.

Fun on the Beach Trip

20080911_6189LS Molly Frazee web.jpgHi, this is Molly! I am writing to you from the bus on our way back from Charleston Southern. It has been a long weekend for our team. We left early Friday morning, and will arrive back in Lynchburg early Tuesday morning. For those of us who are lucky enough to have 7:40 a.m. classes (myself included), we will be fortunate to get a couple hours of sleep in before class. I think tomorrow is going to be a nap day for many of us, because we have the day off from practice.

Well, now let's talk about the weekend. We played Coastal Carolina and Charleston Southern and won both games pretty soundly. The girls played so hard.

One neat thing we all did was go down to the ocean Friday night. For the girls who played, they used it as their ice tubs. We often do ice tubs for recovery. It sounds painful, but it really helps with muscle recovery. You get numb after the first couple of minutes. After the ocean, we all got in the hot tub.

Our first game was against Coastal Carolina, Saturday afternoon. We then got to eat at an all-you-can-eat buffet that night, after the Coastal game. Coach Green even let us get desert, so that was a treat.

On Sunday, we had a devotional done by Coach Deyo's dad. We then had an hour to shop at the outlet malls. A lot of girls came away with great deals.  Sunday night after a short practice, we ate at California Dreamin', which is a great restaurant right on the harbor in Charleston.

For my sisters and me, this weekend was a great time to catch up with some friends of ours who are medical missionaries and happen to have triplet boys and also another son. They are flying out of Atlanta on Wednesday to go back to Africa, so it was nice to be able to see them.

Before I wrap up, I ask that you keep the McKenna family in your prayers. The McKenna's have always been such great fans. They have never missed a home game, and often come to the road games. Mr. McKenna passed away this past week, and his funeral is tomorrow. I just want to ask all of you who read this to keep Mrs. McKenna, Brooke (their daughter) and the rest of the extended family in your prayers. I had the privilege of visiting Mr. McKenna in the hospital before he passed, and he touched me with his words of encouragement! It is often hard to understand why the Lord sometimes does what He does, but He always has a purpose!

I hope you all have a good week! Our senior night game is this Saturday, and while I will not be playing, I know that the rest of the seniors would appreciate your support! It is hard to believe we only have two more home games left!

Until next time,

Molly

Dancing

20080911_6202LS (Megan Frazee hs web).jpgHello all, this is Megan Frazee again!  This week was a light week for myself and the team, which was nice.  We had two days off of practice, which I think has helped us in being able to go 100 percent in practice and in games.  We have only played twice during the past two weeks. The break in our schedule has given us time to rest a little bit, but most of all, continue to refine things that we need to improve on as a team.

This semester, school has been pretty easy for me so far.  I am only taking 12 credits, so it has been nice to not have to study as much.  I feel like I have more time to relax, which is so nice.  It is hard to believe that we are a third of the way into the semester.  The weeks have been flying by!

One class I am in this semester is a rhythmic and tumbling class.  We just finished up the dance part of the class last week.  The dance portion culminated with each person in the class having to do a dance routine.  I chose to do my dance routine with another girl in my class. We dressed up like cowgirls and made up a pretty sweet dance, I must say!  This week, we start the gymnastics portion of the class.  I am a little nervous about this part of the class, and my goal is to not get hurt. Just kidding! It should be fun.

Last night, we played Winthrop at home, which was our 10th game in conference play.  It was a close game in the first half, but we came out in the second half and broke away from them, beating the Eagles, 63-48.  Each game we step out on the court, we have to go out and prove ourselves.  We know that every team in our conference is out to get us, which is understandable.  Our goal as a team is to continue to grow in our trust of each other and continue to improve in the areas that we need to improve on.

womensbasketball-action-meganfrazee42-large.jpg
It has been neat for me to see how our team has handled adversity throughout the course of the season.  It is so important that we never lose focus of who we are playing for!  I want to thank the Lord and give Him all of the honor and glory for everything that He has allowed our team to do this season.  I feel so blessed to be a part of this team! I thank the Lord that He has allowed me to set my feet out on the court representing not only Liberty University, but ultimately Jesus Christ!

I look forward to see what the Lord has in store as we finish out the season.  I hope that you continue to follow our progress, as we finish our regular-season play and approach the conference tournament.

God Bless,

Megan Frazee

Hello from the Bus Again!

20080911_6198LS (Moriah Frazee) hs web.jpgHello again from Moriah. This week, we did not have a game until tonight's contest at Gardner-Webb.  So, we spent the week continuing to work on different things, both individually and as a team, so we can keep moving forward.  Tonight's game started our second half of conference play, so we know that teams are really going to be fighting hard. Conference games are starting to wind down, and soon tournament play will be upon us!

We enjoyed absolutely beautiful weather, the past couple of days at Gardner Webb. It was so nice to be able to walk around in shorts and a T-shirt, without having to wear a jacket or coat.

Once again, I am writing this blog entry on the bus, because it seems to be the best time for me to write.  Right now it is 11:30 p.m., so it's not quite as late as last time I wrote a blog. We should pull into Lynchburg around 2 a.m. , but hopefully a little bit sooner than that.

Tonight, we played at Gardner-Webb, which is the second time we have played them this season.  It was a pretty rough game, but everyone stuck together and we came out on top with a victory! To God be the glory! We ended up winning by seven points, 58-51.

We are now 9-0 in our conference, and our team keeps getting better and better as the season goes on. Our next game is not until next Monday, so we have tomorrow (Tuesday) off, as well as Friday.  It is so nice to have two off days in one week, as it gives our bodies a little bit of extra rest.

Moriah for 2-10 blog.jpg

In terms of school, I just took my first nursing test of the semester and it went really well. Now, my sister and I are starting to study for a Pharmacology test coming up next week. We like to study way ahead, so we feel prepared for what is coming up.  This semester is a little bit lighter than last semester in terms of the classroom, because I am only taking two classes on campus and then two classes through DLP (Distance Learning Program).  It has been nice to only have to attend class two days a week. Of course, I still have clinical every Friday.  This Friday is my last clinical on Oncology (cancer).  The next time I write, I will be on the Med-Surg floor. That will be an interesting experience, because you see so many different and unique things on that floor, but I am looking forward to it.

This past Saturday, my uncle (dad's brother) flew in from Indianapolis to watch us play High Point and Radford at home. It was so nice to see him. Most of the time, we only see him at Christmas and in the summer.  He had never been to Liberty before, so he was able to see where we go to school and where we play. He didn't fly back home until Tuesday, so he was able to watch the Super Bowl with my family and everything.

We had a recruit in town that weekend, so all of the players went over to Coach Green's house to watch the Super Bowl and, of course, eat great food! The recruit we had visit has actually already signed for next year. So, that is pretty neat.

I think that is everything I can update you on for now. I hope everyone had a fantastic weekend and that you have a great week too! Talk to you soon!

Snow Day at Liberty!

20080911_6189LS Molly Frazee web.jpgHi, this is Molly! I am writing to you from my dorm room. We had a two-hour delay today (due to last night's snowfall), which was so nice. This means I have no classes today, so I will more than likely spend the day studying, with breaks here and there. Today is also our mandatory day off practice for the week, so we have nothing "mandatory" to do the whole day! Well, enough talking about the weather!

We have officially made it through the first round of playing all of our conference teams and have remained undefeated so far! Now begins the tough part, of going back through and playing them all again. Our next opponent will be Gardner-Webb, Monday night on the road.

This past weekend, we played High Point and Radford at home. While both of those teams have given us challenges in the past, the girls played hard and we were able to win both games by at least 23 points. Our defense has consistently gotten better as the season has progressed. The one thing we need to work on, however, is the number of turnovers we commit. I know that in time we will get better. As the saying goes, "Practice makes perfect".

womensbasketball-special-handshuddle1-large.jpg It is hard to believe that we only have three more home games left! Boy, does time fly! As far as my recovery process is going, I could not ask for anything better. I have been running for about four weeks now, and will begin cutting next week! Throughout this whole process, the Lord has taught me so much. I have learned that He always has a purpose, and His timing is best, even when we can't see it!

A huge plus for my family this weekend, was that our dad's brother from Indiana came to visit. He had never been to Liberty before, and we enjoyed having him here. That is one thing about being so far away from grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. You have to treasure every moment with them!

Well, thanks to all those loyal readers and fans. Your encouragement and prayers are priceless. I hope you have a great week!

My Last Semester at LU

20080911_6202LS (Megan Frazee hs web).jpgHello from Megan Frazee. We are now back into full swing with classes.  For me, I feel like there is not much time to relax anymore.  I was getting used to Christmas break, where all I had to focus on was basketball and catching up on rest!  Now I am back to the life of a student-athlete, reality has sunk in. I feel like I go to class, to either practice or a game, get some supper, do some homework, sleep a little at night, and then start the cycle over again.  As demanding as being a Division I athlete can be, however, I can honestly say that I love every minute of it!

For me, this is my last semester as a student at Liberty University.  I will be graduating in the spring with a degree in kinesiology (emphasis on physical education and health).  I have thoroughly enjoyed the professors here and the majority of my classes.  This semester, I am able to take somewhat of a lighter load.  I am taking 12 credits and only have class on Tuesday and Thursday.  Measurement and Evaluation, Rhythmic and Tumbling, as well as an elementary physical education methods class, are the classes I am taking this semester.  I will also be required to complete a 20-hour practicum at a local elementary school to observe and help out with physical education class.

Basketball has been going really well for us as of late.  Currently, we are on a nine-game winning streak and are 6-0 in the conference ... undefeated so far in '09!  It has been exciting for me to be a part of the Lady Flames basketball team this year.  I was able to start off the season on the court, then I watched my team from the bench for a while, and now I am back on the court.  Throughout the first half of the season, our team took its lumps with injuries and close losses, but through it all I see that the Lord had a purpose for every single circumstance and situation that has occurred.  I am reminded of Jeremiah 29:11, which says, "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."  It is so neat to know that the Lord has everything already figured out and our best interests in mind.  We simply have to call out to Him and He will hear us and walk along beside us every step of the way, whatever we are going through.

20090124_0423LS (FTN Interview).jpg I can honestly say that the Lord has taught me a lot this season.  He has reminded me of the importance of relying on Him in every situation in life.  I shouldn't just go to Him when I am in need; He is available whenever I ask!

One thing I love about LU, is that we get to hear some of the top speakers in the country.  Last week was Spiritual Emphasis Week at Liberty. Clayton King was the speaker for the week and did a phenomenal job!  One of his talks was titled, The Most Important Question in Life.  There were three questions that he asked: 1) Who is Lord when you're broke? 2) Who is Lord when God seems distant? and 3) Who is Lord when you are suffering?  I thought it was a pretty timely message, because our team has gone through so much this year, but through it all I feel like we have come closer together as a team and have helped each other grow in our walks with the Lord.  So my question for you this week is, "Who is Lord" in your life?  Jesus wants us all to live like He is boss!

Well, I think that is all from me for now.  We have a few days until our next game.  We continue our four-game homestand with two more games at the Vines Center this weekend. We will be playing the #2 team in our conference, High Point, on Saturday night! Please come out and show your support if you are in the area.  We then play again on Monday night at home before heading back out on the road.

I hope you have a great week and God bless! Check back for details on how we do this weekend!

In Christ,

Megan Frazee

Taking Over First Place!

20080911_6198LS (Moriah Frazee) hs web.jpgHello again from Moriah Frazee. It is hard to believe that school has already started again. Classes started last Monday, but I did not officially start classes until last Tuesday.  I have one class on Tuesday, one class on Wednesday and one DLP (Distance Learning Program) class online. It is so nice to only have to go to class two days per week.  I do have a clinical on Friday, but it is at the hospital and I really enjoy clinicals. They give us a chance to apply what we have learned in class in real-life situations.

I just found out my new clinical rotation for the next five weeks. I am going to be on the Oncology (cancer) floor at Lynchburg General Hospital. My teammate Alex Bream is actually going to be in the same clinical group as me, so I am looking forward to it. The next time I write, I may have some stories to share from my experiences on this particular unit.

Now, on to the topic of basketball. I am currently on the bus, traveling back from playing at UNC Asheville, and it is almost 1:30 a.m.  It is going to be a late night, and I can't sleep very well on buses, so I figured I would go ahead and knock out my blog.

We just finished up a two-game road swing. We left campus on Friday and played at Presbyterian on Saturday. We came out with a victory, but it was somewhat of an ugly win. Nevertheless, a win is a win.

pc-42 web.jpg
After the contest at Presbyterian, we drove about halfway to UNC Asheville and woke up Sunday morning to attend church as a team.  The pastor of the church we attended (Forestville Baptist Church), Dr. Rob Jackson, was the campus pastor at Liberty during my freshman and sophomore year.  It was neat being able to see him again and getting to hear how God is working in his life and his church.  After church, we then traveled the rest of the way to Asheville for practice that afternoon.

And here is where the story gets even better. We played UNC Asheville at 7:00 last night. It was a big game in the Big South. Going into Monday night's action, High Point was 4-0 in conference play, we were 3-0 and UNC Asheville was 4-1. The game was even televised (on SportSouth).

The game started and things were going very well. We had excellent execution on both offense and defense. At halftime, we had a 23-point lead.  It is the largest lead we have had the entire season entering the second half. Our team was pretty pumped up.

Our goal was to carry the same intensity into the second half, which I think we did. The final score of the game was 75-48. Needless to say, it was a very good road swing for Liberty.  And, to make the night even better, we found out that Winthrop beat High Point. So, we are now the only undefeated team in the Big South, which propels us into sole possession of first place in the conference! To God be the glory!!

We continue conference play this Saturday against Charleston Southern.  We are going to be playing at home for our next four games, so I encourage those of you who can, to come out and watch!  For those of you who are not able to attend, we will keep you posted!

I hope all of you have a fantastic week and I will talk to you again soon!
