January 2009 Archives
Hello from Megan Frazee. We are now back into full swing with classes. For me, I feel like there is not much time to relax anymore. I was getting used to Christmas break, where all I had to focus on was basketball and catching up on rest! Now I am back to the life of a student-athlete, reality has sunk in. I feel like I go to class, to either practice or a game, get some supper, do some homework, sleep a little at night, and then start the cycle over again. As demanding as being a Division I athlete can be, however, I can honestly say that I love every minute of it!
For me, this is my last semester as a student at Liberty University. I will be graduating in the spring with a degree in kinesiology (emphasis on physical education and health). I have thoroughly enjoyed the professors here and the majority of my classes. This semester, I am able to take somewhat of a lighter load. I am taking 12 credits and only have class on Tuesday and Thursday. Measurement and Evaluation, Rhythmic and Tumbling, as well as an elementary physical education methods class, are the classes I am taking this semester. I will also be required to complete a 20-hour practicum at a local elementary school to observe and help out with physical education class.
Basketball has been going really well for us as of late. Currently, we are on a nine-game winning streak and are 6-0 in the conference ... undefeated so far in '09! It has been exciting for me to be a part of the Lady Flames basketball team this year. I was able to start off the season on the court, then I watched my team from the bench for a while, and now I am back on the court. Throughout the first half of the season, our team took its lumps with injuries and close losses, but through it all I see that the Lord had a purpose for every single circumstance and situation that has occurred. I am reminded of Jeremiah 29:11, which says, "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." It is so neat to know that the Lord has everything already figured out and our best interests in mind. We simply have to call out to Him and He will hear us and walk along beside us every step of the way, whatever we are going through.
I can honestly say that the Lord has taught me a lot this season. He has reminded me of the importance of relying on Him in every situation in life. I shouldn't just go to Him when I am in need; He is available whenever I ask!
One thing I love about LU, is that we get to hear some of the top speakers in the country. Last week was Spiritual Emphasis Week at Liberty. Clayton King was the speaker for the week and did a phenomenal job! One of his talks was titled, The Most Important Question in Life. There were three questions that he asked: 1) Who is Lord when you're broke? 2) Who is Lord when God seems distant? and 3) Who is Lord when you are suffering? I thought it was a pretty timely message, because our team has gone through so much this year, but through it all I feel like we have come closer together as a team and have helped each other grow in our walks with the Lord. So my question for you this week is, "Who is Lord" in your life? Jesus wants us all to live like He is boss!
Well, I think that is all from me for now. We have a few days until our next game. We continue our four-game homestand with two more games at the Vines Center this weekend. We will be playing the #2 team in our conference, High Point, on Saturday night! Please come out and show your support if you are in the area. We then play again on Monday night at home before heading back out on the road.
I hope you have a great week and God bless! Check back for details on how we do this weekend!
In Christ,
Megan Frazee
Hello again from Moriah Frazee. It is hard to believe that school has already started again. Classes started last Monday, but I did not officially start classes until last Tuesday. I have one class on Tuesday, one class on Wednesday and one DLP (Distance Learning Program) class online. It is so nice to only have to go to class two days per week. I do have a clinical on Friday, but it is at the hospital and I really enjoy clinicals. They give us a chance to apply what we have learned in class in real-life situations.
I just found out my new clinical rotation for the next five weeks. I am going to be on the Oncology (cancer) floor at Lynchburg General Hospital. My teammate Alex Bream is actually going to be in the same clinical group as me, so I am looking forward to it. The next time I write, I may have some stories to share from my experiences on this particular unit.
Now, on to the topic of basketball. I am currently on the bus, traveling back from playing at UNC Asheville, and it is almost 1:30 a.m. It is going to be a late night, and I can't sleep very well on buses, so I figured I would go ahead and knock out my blog.
We just finished up a two-game road swing. We left campus on Friday and played at Presbyterian on Saturday. We came out with a victory, but it was somewhat of an ugly win. Nevertheless, a win is a win.
After the contest at Presbyterian, we drove about halfway to UNC Asheville and woke up Sunday morning to attend church as a team. The pastor of the church we attended (Forestville Baptist Church), Dr. Rob Jackson, was the campus pastor at Liberty during my freshman and sophomore year. It was neat being able to see him again and getting to hear how God is working in his life and his church. After church, we then traveled the rest of the way to Asheville for practice that afternoon.
And here is where the story gets even better. We played UNC Asheville at 7:00 last night. It was a big game in the Big South. Going into Monday night's action, High Point was 4-0 in conference play, we were 3-0 and UNC Asheville was 4-1. The game was even televised (on SportSouth).
The game started and things were going very well. We had excellent execution on both offense and defense. At halftime, we had a 23-point lead. It is the largest lead we have had the entire season entering the second half. Our team was pretty pumped up.
Our goal was to carry the same intensity into the second half, which I think we did. The final score of the game was 75-48. Needless to say, it was a very good road swing for Liberty. And, to make the night even better, we found out that Winthrop beat High Point. So, we are now the only undefeated team in the Big South, which propels us into sole possession of first place in the conference! To God be the glory!!
We continue conference play this Saturday against Charleston Southern. We are going to be playing at home for our next four games, so I encourage those of you who can, to come out and watch! For those of you who are not able to attend, we will keep you posted!
I hope all of you have a fantastic week and I will talk to you again soon!

Hello again, this is Molly! I am currently writing on the bus on our way home from Winthrop. Boy, was it an exciting game! The game was pretty close the whole way through. I knew it was going to be a battle, because we lost there last year. We went into the locker room at halftime up by three. However, our lead was quickly lost early on in the second half.
Needless to say, we found ourselves down by five points with around four minutes left. Coach Green called a timeout, and we ran a play that he drew up on the board. The play was to have Megan come off of two screens to shoot a three-pointer, and what do you know, it worked! We got a defensive stop, and then Amber came down and made a jumper. Megan and Rae (Rachel McLeod) were able to step up and knock down free throws for us to win by four. I am so proud of our team!
We are about to begin our spring semester. Classes start up on Monday! While the break has gone by quickly, I think I am ready to conquer another semester.
As far as my knee progress is going, I was cleared to run last Wednesday! It feels good, to finally be able to run again. I will be limited to only forward and backward running with no cutting for another 4-6 weeks. I am so thankful to the Lord for giving me the endurance and strength that only He can give. My recovery process has gone well, without any hitches so far. I am a little over three months out from surgery.
I hope those of you who are reading had a great New Year! I did not have any big New Year's resolutions myself, but for those of you who did, I hope that you will be able to fulfill them in this upcoming year.
As a side note, we are now 7-7, and no longer have a losing record. Slowly but surely, we are climbing back to the top. The Lord has a purpose through all of this, and it is our job to wait patiently, and follow Him. Until next time, God bless!
Hello all again from Megan Frazee!
I am about to begin my final semester at Liberty. Time really has gone by quickly. This semester will probably be one of my lighter semesters since being here at LU. Thankfully, I only need to take 12 credits to finish up, so that will be nice. This is our last week off, before spring semester classes back up. Having a break from school has been amazing! It has been a great time to be able to relax and catch up on some much-needed rest.
We started conference play on Saturday against Gardner-Webb. The Bulldogs came out very aggressively, but we were able to withstand their intensity and effort to come out victorious. It is great to be able to start out the conference with a WIN (so far we are undefeated this year)! Recently, our team has really been jelling well together. We have won five out of our last six games, so we are steadily approaching the .500 mark (6-7) for the season.
I am excited to be playing again. Last time I wrote my blog, I was cheering on my team from the sideline. I thank the Lord that He has allowed me to get back out on the court. I definitely have seen the Lord's hand in my life throughout the injury. I ran across this quote the other day from John Piper, "God is most glorified in you when you are most satisfied in him in the midst of loss, not prosperity." The beginning of this season was a struggle for our team, as we encountered countless injuries. Through it all though, I feel like the Lord was glorified and was seen. It's amazing the outlook the Lord has given to our team. The Lord has sustained us and made us stronger!

We had an off day on Sunday, which was nice. The rest of our break will consist of lifting and practicing. This week, we will continue to focus on areas that we need to improve on individually, and as a team, as we continue into conference play. We will head down to South Carolina to play Winthrop on Saturday. Check back for details on the outcome.
God bless you in this new year!

Jer. 29:11
Hello from Moriah again. We enjoyed an off day yesterday, which was really nice. I hope everyone had a great Christmas! I enjoyed getting to spend time with family that we don't get to see very often. All of our family lives in Indiana. So, after the Vanderbilt game, we drove to Indiana with our parents and were able to spend three days in Indiana before returning to Lynchburg for practice on the 26th. We had a couple of days in town prior to hitting the road again.
We just got back from a very exciting tournament hosted by Virginia Tech. The four teams in the tourney were: Virginia Tech, Lafayette, Liberty and North Carolina A&T. Our first game was against North Carolina A&T, while Virginia Tech played Lafayette. Both of the Virginia teams were victorious in the tournament opener games, so the tournament championship game found us playing Virginia Tech.
Tech is a team we have played numerous times, but have never been able to beat. I was really looking forward to another opportunity to play them again. Ever since my freshman year, we have always come really close to defeating them, but have never quite been able to. It was also great to have my sister Megan back for this tournament, which added more depth to our team. It was a close game throughout, but we ended up coming out victorious this time! The final score of the game was 45-43. It was not the prettiest game either team has ever played, but we got the big "W."
I am excited to see the steps our team is making as we head into conference play. It has helped having players return to practice and games after being out for a while. We now have 10 practice players, which is so great!
This coming Saturday, we play our first conference game against Gardner-Webb, a new member in our conference this year. I'm glad that we finally have another home game, because I feel like we have been on the road for a while. We have a few more days until school starts, so it has been really nice not to have to worry about school and just having to focus on basketball.
I can't believe that today is the start of another year. I feel like 2008 has gone by so fast for the most part. My family has a little tradition, where we always make homemade egg rolls on New Year's Eve. Our dad does most of the cooking, but we always help wrap them up and, most importantly, help eat them. This year, we are going to have to push it back a little bit, because we are going to wait until our brother gets back home. Right now, he is in Michigan visiting his fiancé and her family. He is going to be back for our game on Saturday, and then I'm sure we will make the egg rolls fairly soon after that.
Well, I hope that everyone has a Happy New Year and that God will bless you in the upcoming year. I also want to thank God for the many blessings He has given me this past year. I have had ups and downs throughout the year 2008, but God has proven Himself faithful no matter what I'm going through. He is ultimately in control, and He never gives us more than we can handle. I am so thankful for a God I can look to and trust, no matter what!
Happy New Year to all!
