A No. 1 ranking usually means nothing when it comes to fighting for a national championship. However, considering Claremont-Mudd-Scripps’ recent history, the Stags just may be the team to beat.

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – A No. 1 ranking is not enough to make Claremont-Mudd-Scripps the favorite entering next week’s NCAA Division III Men’s Tennis Championships at Kalamazoo College’s Stowe Stadium.

However, victories this season against six of the other seven teams in the quarterfinals make the Stags the team to beat when play is served up Monday afternoon. CMS has beaten No. 2 Kenyon, No. 4 Emory, No. 6 Williams, No. 8 Trinity (Texas), No.10 Washington (Missouri) and No. 11 Middlebury, but did not play No. 3 Amherst.
