Named in honor of Springfield College instructor James Naismith, who invented the game of basketball while teaching at the College in 1891, the refinished court serves as the competition site for men’s and women’s basketball, volleyball, and gymnastics, and wrestling.
Springfield sits at the crossroads of New England. Midway between New York and Boston and on the road between New York and Canada, Springfield is ideally located for travel in all directions.
Before this year’s inaugural championship, The Molten Division III Men’s Invitational Volleyball Championship was formed in 1997 to have a culminating event for NCAA Division III men’s volleyball.
