In the first elimination game Saturday, the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point scored six runs in the first inning on the way to eliminating the University of Massachusetts-Boston.

In the first inning, Stevens Point (34-17) scored on a sacrifice fly to go ahead, 1-0. The play was the second out of the frame but unfortunately for the Beacons, the Pointers were just getting started.

After Jordan Rennicke collected an RBI single, the Pointers loaded the bases. Catcher Steve Considine cleared the pond with a double down the right-field line. Travis Tuschen capped the inning with an RBI single to score Considine.

Stevens Point added three more runs each, in the fourth and the fifth innings, and led 12-1 going into the sixth.

UMass-Boston (32-17) scored runs in the sixth.

Scott Williams, who took the loss in relief in Friday's opening game, started Saturday for Stevens Point and earned the win, throwing seven innings and allowing two earned runs on 11 hits while striking out four.

For UMass-Boston, Danny Gomez took the loss throwing 2/3 of an inning and giving up six runs on four hits.

Stevens Point will face the loser of the Heidelberg-Illinois Wesleyan game on Sunday at 4:30 p.m.
