COLUMBIA, S.C. -- South Carolina catcher Brady Thomas has been granted an additional season of competition by the NCAA and will be able to participate in the 2011 season for the Gamecocks.
Thomas played in 47 games last year including 33 starts and finished with a .331 average with eight home runs and 30 RBI. He also was named to the College World Series All-Tournament team as well as the NCAA Regional All-Tournament team.
The news on Thomas comes on the heels of the team announcing Monday that junior left-handed pitcher Nolan Belcher sustained an injury to his left elbow and will miss the season after suffering a tear in the UCL.
Belcher underwent an MRI on Monday afternoon and is tentatively set to undergo surgery on Thursday. He will automatically qualify for a medical redshirt and will have two years of eligibility remaining when he returns.
