SAVANNAH, Ga. -- Junior Scott Strickland hurled a complete-game four-hit shutout, striking out 11, as Armstrong Atlantic State collected an 11-0 win against No. 1-ranked and defending Divisoin II national champion Southern Indiana on Saturday afternoon at Pirate Field.

The Pirates (2-2) notched their second win against a top-ranked club in the last three years with the victory as Armstrong also claimed an 8-1 win against then-No. 1 Mount Olive on Feb. 1, 2009. Southern Indiana (1-1) suffered its first loss of the campaign.

Armstrong jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead in the first inning on a John Roberts RBI double, then the Pirates plated two runs in the fourth on an RBI double from Clayton Miller and a wild pitch.

The Pirates scored twice more in the sixth, then put the game out of reach with a six-run seventh inning that included a two-run home run by Chris Zittrouer and a two-run double by Mike Barnhill.

Meanwhile, Strickland (2-0) kept the Southern Indiana hitters off balance all game long, not giving up a hit during the last four innings while retiring the last eight batters he faced for the complete game shutout.

Southern Indiana starter Taylor Dennis (0-1) - the most outstanding player at the 2010 Division II College World Series - suffered the loss, giving up four hits and three runs in five innings, walking two and striking out one.

Zittrouer finished the game 3 for 3 with three runs scored and two RBIs, while Barnhill, Miller, Drew Walker and John Roberts all had two-hit efforts.

Tyler Choate was the only Southern Indiana player with two hits in the contest.
