Shenandoah blanks Cortland, wins four games total
• Shenandoah senior right-hander Greg Van Sickler struck out seven batters in eight innings to key the No. 7 Hornets' 2-0 shutout of No. 4 Cortland State on Friday. It is the highest-ranked foe that Shenandoah has ever defeated. The Hornets went on to win three more games on the weekend against Misercordia and Elizabethtown, improving to 5-0 on the season.
• No. 20 Trinity (Texas) pounded out a 19-8 victory against Sul Ross State to complete a three-game sweep of the Lobos on Sunday. The Tigers have won seven consecutive games.
• After losing its first three contests of the season, No. 4 Cortland regrouped and posted a 3-0 win against No. 21 Salisbury University for the Red Dragons’ first win of the year. Senior pitcher Michael Mahay held the Sea Gulls to three hits and struck out five batters in seven scoreless innings.
• Freshman Stewart Martens belted a walk-off grand slam to lift Rhodes College to a 12-10 win against No. 15 Mississippi College on Sunday as the Lynx improved to 2-5 on the year.
