ABILENE, Texas – It didn't take long for the tournament to experience an upset.

The West Region Championship Tournament got off to a dramatic start as the sixth-seeded Concordia (Texas) Tornados upset No. 1 seed Linfield 5-2 on Wednesday afternoon.

Ryan Ullman picked up his third postseason save after limiting the Wildcats to just one hit and no runs over the final four innings to pick up his fourth save of the season.

The Tornados pounded out 13 hits with five different players producing a multi-hit performance while the Wildcats committed five errors at four positions and stranded 10 on base.

CTX capitalized on two Linfield errors in the fourth inning to take a 2-0 lead. Collin Janssen (2-for 4, HR, RBI) singled down the left field line, but was able to advance to second base on a fielding error. It would prove to be a costly mistake as first baseman Robert Brown (2-for-4, two RBIs) followed with a double to bring Janssen home. Brown would advance to third on the play because of a throwing error by the Linfield catcher and reached home when right fielder Kyle Bieschke (2-for-4, RBI) hit an RBI single into right field. Later, in the sixth inning, Jannssen extended the lead to 3-0 with a solo home run to left to lead off the inning.

Linfield would battle back with two runs in the sixth inning against Ullman, scoring on a bases-loaded walk drawn by Gunnar Cederberg and an Eric Evenson RBI groundout to cut the lead to one. However, Ullman struck out Dustin Smith with two runners in scoring position to minimize the damage.

Ullmann retired the last nine batters he faced and did not allow the ball to get out of the infield in the eighth and ninth innings to seal the victory.

The Tornados added two insurance runs in the seventh inning. Bucky Bryant and Brent Schaekel hit consecutive singles to start the frame and came home on a sacrifice fly to deep left center by Justin Beasley and an RBI single to left by Brown.

Scott Hays picked up the win for Concordia on the mound to move to 3-1 on the year. He scattered seven hits, allowed two runs (one earned), walked five and struck out two in five innings.

The Wildcats' Ryan Larson (7-3) threw seven innings in the loss. He allowed five runs (four earned), walked two and struck out four.

CTX plays the loser of No. 4 Trinity and No. 3 Redlands on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. while Linfield takes on the loser of No. 2 Chapman and No. 5 UT-Tyler in an elimination game at 12 p.m. Thursday.
