ST. CLOUD, Minn. -- Winona State on Tuesday punched its ticket to Cary, N.C., and the 2011 NCAA Division II Baseball Championship with a 3-1 victory against Nebraska-Kearney in the championship game of the Central Region tournament at Dick Putz Field.

The Warriors (39-17) opened the scoring with one run in the second inning. In the fifth inning, WSU notched the eventual game-winner when Seth McMullen scored on a RBI by Adam Gemuenden. In the eighth innning, WSU iced the contest when Joe Kley scored on a single by Cody Strang.

The lone run in the contest for UNK was posted in the sixth inning when Jordan Mitchellhill scored on a single by Adam Haake.

Winona State outhit the Lopers 9-6. Kley led the Warriors with three hits and two runs, while Strang added two hits and two RBI. Kyle Sill completed the WSU attack with two hits.

On the mound, WSU's Kodey Simon pitched his way to tournament MVP accolades with his five-hit, four-strikeout effort throughout seven innings. The save was credited to Tony Mueller, who finished the final two innings.

Todd Stachura was the losing pitcher for UNK with eight hits and three runs allowed in 7.1 innings.
