WASHINGTON, D.C. - Steve Nickel went 3-for-5 with a homer, double and four RBI and Mike Assmann pitched a three-hitter as Cortland defeated Catholic University, 16-1, in the second game of a doubleheader. The host Cardinals won the opener, 5-4, with four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Both games were seven innings.

Assmann struck out four and gave up one run in the nightcap. Ryan Benson went 2-for-4 with two RBI, Jason Simone was 2-for-5 with a triple, double and RBI and Paul Merriweather was 1-for-3 with a double, walk and three RBI. Mike Salvatore finished 2-for-4 with an RBI and Mike Gimblette was 2-for-2 with a double and two RBI.

In the first game, Merriweather finished 2-for-4 with a triple and two RBI. Andersen Gardner was 2-for-4 with a triple and Shawn Bailey went 1-for-2 with an RBI. Brendan Rowlands pitched five and one-third innings, allowing four hits and one run. He struck out four and walked none and received a no-decision.
