’Canes’ Morris to miss UF series
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Still recovering from gall bladder surgery a week ago, University of Miami head baseball coach Jim Morris will not travel with the 24th-ranked Hurricanes this weekend to Gainesville, Fla., for a three-game series with the top-ranked Florida Gators.
After an infection spread from the removal of his gall bladder on Feb. 25, Morris was released from University of Miami Hospital on Thursday morning, and is resting comfortably at his home in Coconut Grove.
“I have been released from the hospital, and I’m resting comfortably and recovering from the surgery and infection which was worse than the doctors originally thought,” said Morris, who won national titles at Miami in 1999 and 2001.
“I’m meeting doctors again on Monday, and we will find out more about how I’m progressing at that time. While I’m anxious to rejoin the team, my health is the number one concern at this time.”
Morris is not supposed to do anything with the team and remain recovering at his home for two weeks. He is progressing better each day, but no official date for his return to the Miami dugout has been given.
