SURPRISE, Ariz. -- Freshman Cael Brockmeyer hit his first collegiate home run in the top of the 10th inning to lift Cal State Bakersfield past No. 10 Arizona State 2-1 at the Coca Cola Classic.

The Runners (8-2) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fifth when DC Legg doubled home Oscar Sanay. The Sun Devils (6-2) tied the score in the bottom of the seventh when Austin Barnes singled in Deven Marrero.

Arizona State put two on with one out in the bottom of the ninth, but CSUB starter Tommy Hoenshell worked out of the jam to send it to extra innings, allowing Brockmeyer to put the Roadrunners ahead.

ASU threatened in the 10th when they put the first two runners on. ’Runner closer Martin Medina got Johnny Ruettinger to line out to short for out No. 1. Zack MacPhee grounded out to first for the second out and Riccio Torrez was intentionally walked to load the bases. On a 1-1 count, Zach Wilson flied out to center to end the game.

Arizona State outhit CSUB 10-4, but Hoenshell induced nine ground ball outs and struck out three ASU hitters. Hoenshell tossed 78 of his 116 pitches for strikes.

Medina broke his own school record for most saves in a season with his third early in the year. Medina started the game at first base and recorded 11 putouts.
