Freshman's slams lift Dallas Baptist
Alexander sets RBI record in win against New Orleans
DALLAS -- Freshman K.J. Alexander broke the DBU single-game RBI record, driving in a total of nine runs on back-to-back grand slams as Dallas Baptist cruised to victory in their first game of the DBU Invitational, defeating the University of New Orleans, 25-2. With the win, the Patriots improve to 7-2 on the season.
Alexander was 2-for-3 on the night and led a total of seven players for the Patriots that had at least two hits.
The Patriot offense collected 22 hits, while the pitching combination of sophomore Will Lane, junior Taylor Massey and sophomore Stuart Pudenz held the Privateers to only four hits on the evening. Lane picked up the win for DBU after striking out three and giving up one hit in five innings.
Besides Alexander, other top hitters for the Patriots included junior Kenny Hatcher, who went 3-for-3, and sophomore Austin Elkins who went 3-for-6.
The Patriots scored a single run in the first thanks to a solo homer from senior Tyler Robbins, giving DBU an early 1-0 lead.
In the second, DBU added seven more runs on seven hits, including a three-RBI double from senior Jason Krizan.
Alexander’s first grand slam came in the bottom of the fourth. With Hatcher and juniors Landon Anderson and Ryan Behmanesh on base, Alexander went deep over the left field wall to give DBU a 13-0 lead.
In the next inning, Alexander blasted another grand slam to left. Anderson, sophomore Logan Brumley, and sophomore Duncan McAlpine all scored to make it 18-0.
