West Region Preview
Scott Brosius knows a thing or two about winning championships. He won three with the New York Yankees.
The fourth-year head coach will try to take Linfield to the DIII title this season as the top seed in the rugged West Region at Walt Driggers Field in Abilene, Texas. Five of the teams in the regional are nationally ranked.
The Wildcats (31-9) went to the Finals a year ago as Brosius continued his success story as a head coach. He is 131-47 in his career and has a team that features the Northwest Conference Player of the Year in Cole Bixenman. The Linfield star is batting .373 with 10 home runs and 44 RBI.
Tim Wilson is hitting .460 and has hit five homers while stealing 18 bases. Ryan Larson has been strong on the mound, owning a 1.92 ERA and a 7-2 record. He has 61 strikeouts and has walked only nine batters.
Chapman is one of the teams that will try to derail the title hopes of the Wildcats. The Panthers (29-11) are in the regional for the ninth consecutive season, but for the first time in five years, they arrive without a regional crown to defend.
Brian Rauh has been instrumental to the success of the Panthers. He is 10-0 with a 1.88 ERA and his 124 strikeouts leads the nation.

• Trinity (Texas) has one of the better pitchers in the regional in Ben Klimesch. The standout has put away 102 batters on strikeouts and is 10-2 with a 3.10 ERA.
• Concordia (Texas) doubled its win total from a season ago and has won 14 of its last 17 games to take a wave of momentum into the regional. The Tornados (30-15) are led by Collin Janssen, who is hitting .373 with 25 RBI and has scored 31 runs.
Robert Brown is batting.350 and Collin Butschek has been a solid pitcher for the Tornados, going 8-3 with 60 strikeouts. Concordia is batting .305 as a team.
• Texas-Tyler will count on Nick Clifton to help lead its bid to win the West. Clifton is batting .426 for the Patriots (33-6) while Justin Juneau is hitting .401 with 42 RBI. Clifton has hit seven home runs as well.
Chad Sherman has been a headache for opposing hitters, going 8-1 with a 1.49 ERA. He has nearly 100 strikeouts (95) on the season.
