Porter did not allow Baylor hit until fifth inning
HOUSTON — Chad Bunting homered twice for California and Kyle Porter set career highs with nine strikeouts and 6.2 innings pitched to lead the Golden Bears to an 8-0 win against Baylor in the Houston Regional to stave off elimination Sunday night.
California (34-21) will play Baylor (31-27) again Monday night for a spot in the Super Regionals.
Porter (5-0) didn’t allow a hit through the first 4.2 innings before allowing a double to Landis Ware in the fifth. He finished with three hits allowed.
Bunting gave Cal a 1-0 lead with a solo homer in the sixth, and his three-run homer in the eighth made it 5-0. The Golden Bears added three more runs in the eighth and sent 11 batters to the plate.
Brooks Pinckard (5-3) allowed one run and six hits in six innings for Baylor.
