LOS ANGELES — Ronnie Shaeffer singled down the right-field line with no outs in ninth inning to give UC Irvine a 4-3 comeback victory over UCLA on Sunday night in the NCAA Los Angeles Regional.

Leyland scored the winning run two batters later on Shaeffer’s single. Shaeffer, selected the regional’s most outstanding player, had two hits and two RBIs.
UCLA’s Nick Vander Tuig (3-4) took the loss after entering with a man on in the ninth.
