Miami’s O’Brien cleared to play
Former Bethune-Cookman catcher will play in 2012 for Canes
CORAL GABLES, Fla. -- Senior catcher Peter O’Brien has been approved by the NCAA to compete for the Hurricanes during the upcoming 2012 season.
“Needless to say, Peter is very excited, the players are excited, and the coaching staff is excited to have a guy of his quality,” head coach Jim Morris said.
O’Brien transferred to Miami after an impressive three-year career with Bethune-Cookman. The Miami Gardens, Fla. native finished his junior campaign with a .304 batting average, 14 home runs and 69 runs batted in. O’Brien, who was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Player of the Year in 2010, earned Freshman All-American honors from Louisville Slugger in 2009.
“We expect him to be a great addition to our team,” Coach Morris said. “We’re ready to get this season started.”
