Mules erase early deficit, score final eight runs in 9-4 victory
ARKADELPHIA, Ark. -- No. 3 Central Missouri opened the 2012 season with a 9-4 come-from-behind win against Ouachita Baptist on Thursday. The Mules trailed 4-1 after three innings, but scored runs in each of the final four innings to get the win.
The Mules (1-0) opened the scoring in the third when Gabe Thibodeau singled, went to second on a walk, stole third and scored on an error by the catcher.
Ouachita Baptist (4-7) answered in the bottom of the inning when they plated four unearned runs. The Mules cut one run down at the plate, but an error opened the door for four Tiger runners to cross to plate and give OBU a 4-1 lead after three.
Central Missouri rallied to tie the game with three runs in the sixth. Chase Graskewicz singled home Jordan Coons with the first run of the inning. A sacrifice fly from Thibodeau plated the second run and an error on the third baseman allowed Graskewicz to tie the game.
The Mules took the lead for good with two more runs in the top of the seventh. Coons doubled and later scored on an error and Jon Cotter singled home pinch-runner Brad Wilson to give UCM a 6-4 advantage.
Central Missouri tacked on one more run in the eighth and two in the ninth for the 9-4 win. John Oropeza doubled home Kyle Grieshaber in the eighth, while Thibodeau drove in the first run of the ninth with a double and later scored on a passed ball.
Thibodeau finished the day 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored.
