TYLER, Texas -- No. 23 Texas-Tyler improved to 8-1 on the season with a 3-2 win against Concordia (Texas) on Friday night behind solid pitching and timely hitting. The Patriots win their seventh in a row, as Concordia dropped to 9-3 on the season.

The series is a match up between the two American Southwest Conference division winners from a season ago, as Concordia won the ASC West title and UT Tyler won the ASC East title, and both teams ended up competing in the same NCAA Regional in Abilene.

The Patriots got on the board early in the first inning when Aaron McCain walked and advanced to second when David Ring reached on an error by the Concordia short stop. McCain then moved to third when Hayden Chick bunted him and Ring over, and then both scored on a Issac Tijerina single to center to put UT Tyler on top, 2-0.

UT Tyler added another run in the bottom of the second when Jake Beam, who had singled, scored on a McCain ground ball put out to short stop.

Concordia got its only two runs of the game in the top of the fifth inning as Colton Gommert scored on a sacrifice fly and Kyle Rodriguez scored on an RBI single by Tyler Grygar.

UT Tyler starter Jack Barkley recorded the win for the Patriots, pitching six innings and only giving up two runs on seven hits while striking out three. Parker Sheets relieved Barkley, going two innings and giving up two hits. Derek Miller pitched the ninth inning and registered the save, giving up one hit and striking out two.
