Registration for the second annual Road to Omaha 5K Run is now open online. The run, which starts at 9 a.m. CT June 24, will once again be hosted by the NCAA, the City of Omaha Parks, Recreation and Public Property Department and College World Series Inc. as part of the 2012 NCAA Men’s College World Series.

Runners may register at www.ncaa.com/cws for a fee of $25 for adults 19 and older, or $20 for participants 18 and under. The Omaha Running Club is designing a course suitable for runners of all skill levels that highlights the downtown parks system and the TD Ameritrade Park Omaha.

“Our intent for the inaugural run was to take participants through the beautiful downtown Omaha parks system, but flooding caused us to move the event away from the riverfront to Elmwood Park,” said Amber Miller, executive director of the Omaha Parks Foundation. “This year, we’re looking forward to showing the runners what a fantastic trail system we have and the incredible flood recovery efforts made at Lewis and Clark Landing.”

In 2011, proceeds of more than $12,750 from the run were divided between the Omaha Parks Foundation and the NCAA’s Fund the Future partnership with DonorsChoose.org. The Omaha Parks Foundation is dedicated to enhancing the Omaha parks system and recreation centers. In addition, Omaha-area schools will once again benefit through the NCAA’s contribution to Fund the Future’s partnership with DonorsChoose.org.

“Having had a terrific first year in TD Ameritrade Park , we’re looking forward to the 2012 CWS activities,” said Damani Leech, NCAA director of baseball and football. “I’m confident we will welcome a record number of runners from across the country to the Road to Omaha 5K Run.”
