Jordano becomes Pitt wins leader
Panthers top Coastal Carolina; victory No. 403 for 15-year vet
CONWAY, S.C. -- Joe Jordano earned his 403rd victory Friday night to become the winningest baseball coach in Pittsburgh history as the Panthers topped Coastal Carolina 3-1.
Jordano, in his 15th season with the Panthers, surpassed Bobby Lewis, who coached Pittsburgh from 1955-90.
“I am humbled because of the great respect I have for Coach Lewis as well as his wonderful family,” Jordano said. “I am honored to be a part of Pitt baseball history, one in which Coach Lewis played such a significant role and wrote so many of the chapters.”
Elvin Soto homered and Matt Iannazzo allowed one run and seven hits in eight innings in the victory for the Panthers (4-4) against the Chanticleers (3-4).
