REDLANDS Calif. -- Senior Steve Sanguiliano drove in the tying run in the ninth while pushing across the winning run in the 11th, in addition to tossing three and two thirds innings of relief to pick up the win as No. 2 Kean edged Redlands 5-4 Friday afternoon in the California Invitational.

Trailing 4-3 heading into the ninth inning, sophomore Shane Alvarez got the rally started with a one-out triple. A walk to rookie Andy Lopez put runners on the corners and Sanguiliano (pictured left) tied things up with a fielder’s choice. He went on to sit down the Bulldogs (8-10) one-two-three in the ninth and once more in the 10th. In the top of the 11th frame, senior Vinny Galya led things off by working a walk.

After advancing to second on a groundout later in the inning, Sanguiliano came up big again, this time with a two-out, RBI double.  The Bulldogs didn’t go without a fight as senior Cameron Lowe hit a two-out single.  Sophomore Alex Scheiwe followed with a single of his own putting runners on first and second.  Rookie Connor Hancock would follow with a single to center, and as the runners started moving around the diamond Galya fired the ball in from center and junior Nick Ramagli applied the tag to get out Scheiwe at third before Lowe crossed the plate, giving the Cougars the win.

Starter Chris Cirlincione picked up a no decision in the contest.  He allowed four runs, one earned, and 11 hits with two strikeouts and a walk.  Offensively Alvarez, Sanguiliano, Galya, and seniors Dylan Laguna and Eddie Jennings all finished with two hits in the win.
