Wheaton (Mass.) rolls Mass.-Boston
Ryan leads Lyons’ offense going 3-for-4 with two RBIs
NORTON, Mass. -- Corey Laliberte tossed seven shutout innings to lead No. 9 Wheaton (Mass.) to a 5-0 win against Massachusetts-Boston in non-conference baseball action on Wednesday afternoon.
Sean Ryan went 3-for-4 with two RBIs for the Lyons, who improved to 33-7 on the season. Laliberte, meanwhile, scattered six hits, did not walk a batter and struck out one to move to 3-2 on the season.
Hal Landers opened the bottom of the first with a double and scored on a groundout by Ryan to give the Lyons an early 1-0 lead. Wheaton doubled its lead in the fourth when Ryan laced a one-out double and scored on an RBI single by Apolinar De la Cruz.
The Lyons tacked on a pair of runs in the fifth to extend their lead to 4-0. Justin Connor doubled and came around to score on a sac fly off the bat of Landers. Eric Jensen followed with a walk, stole second and scored on an RBI single by Ryan. In the seventh, Jensen led off with a double and later scored on a balk to cap the scoring.
Kyle Szatrowski started on the bump for the Beacons and surrendered six hits and four runs in five innings of work. He walked two and struck out two to fall to 1-3 on the season.
De la Cruz finished the afternoon with two hits while Jensen, Ryan, and John Keating each stole a base for the Lyons. Jamill Moquette recorded three hits for the Beacons (17-19-1).
