St. Cloud State defeats Regis
Bosch improves to 5-0 with seven-strikeout performance
MANKATO, Minn. -- Facing elimination, Austan Bosch stepped up for St. Cloud State with a seven-strikeout performance in a 4-2 win against Regis in the NCAA Central Region tournament on Saturday.
Bosch is now 5-0 on the mound this season after giving up just two runs on six hits in 6.1 innings of work for the Huskies (47-13) who pounded out 14 hits against the Rangers who finish the season with a 33-23 overall record.
Scott Lieser came in and got the final eight outs of the game to earn his second save of the season after throwing 2.2 scoreless innings to go with two strikeouts.
St. Cloud State got on the board first as Mike Jurgella singled to right center and scored on a bases loaded fielder’s choice off the bat of Phil Imholte with two outs in the fourth.
Jurgella got into the scoring again an inning later when he hit a two-out double down the left field line to score Brian Hansen, who stole a base earlier in the inning to make it 2-0.
St. Cloud State added another run in the sixth after three consecutive hits from Steve Rindelaub, Max Ditty and Imholte to start the inning.
Rindelaub then scored on a double play off the bat of Garrett Fischer to make it 3-0 before the Rangers added two runs in the seventh to knock Bosch out of the game.
The Rangers starting the inning with back-to-back doubles by Steven Brault and Bob Berry, before Dave Holland drove in the second run for Regis to make it a tight 3-2 game heading into the eighth.
Jurgella then helped the Huskies put another run across in the ninth inning with a hard hit single that went off the second baseman’s glove up the middle to score Hansen and put SCSU up 4-2 for the final run of the day.
Jurgella finished the game with an outstanding 4-for-5 performance from the plate that included two doubles and two RBI to go with a run scored.
Rindelaub finished the game 3-for-5 with a runs scored, while Hansen went 1-for-5 with a game-high two runs scored.
