ARIZONA QUICK HITS … ► Arizona improved to 30-1 this year when holding the opposition to four runs or fewer with its win against Florida State. Arizona improved to 39-4 in 2012 when outhitting its opponent and 9-4 in one-run games. ► Arizona is making its 16th appearance in the CWS, the last coming in 2004. The Wildcats have a combined record of 34-27 at the event. ► UCLA and Arizona were the Pac-12 co-champions in 2012, but UCLA took the regular-season series 2-1 in Tucson back in April. Wildcats’ starter Konner Wade lasted only three innings while allowing 10 hits and five earned runs in a 15-3 loss. |
UCLA QUICK HITS … ► The Bruins are 33-2 this season when scoring six or more runs in a game and have scored at least six runs in four of its past five NCAA tournament contests and is 27-1 this season when holding opponents to two runs or less. ► UCLA’s nine runs against Stony Brook were the most by a single team in the CWS at TD Ameritrade Park Omaha. Two teams — Florida on June 18 and Virginia on June 23 — both scored eight runs during the 2011 CWS. ► David Berg appeared in his 48th game of the season on Friday, a total which ranks second on the NCAA single-season chart. Berg has appeared in 23 of the Bruins’ last 24 contests. Berg extended his current scoreless streak to 14.1 innings, dating back to May 22. He has tossed 10 shutout innings in the NCAA tournament, allowing four hits and striking out 11. |
