CHICO, Calif. – After 10 innings of play, Northwest Nazarene defeated No. 5 Chico State 6-5 in game one of Thursday’s doubleheader action.
The Crusaders handed the No. 5 Wildcats their first loss of 2013 season and only the sixth non-conference home loss for CSU in 16 years.
Charlie Gorzo hit a home run in the first inning to get the Crusaders on the board first. Gorzo was 2 for 4 from the plate with 1 RBI. Logan Parker went 3 for 5 with 1 RBI and Jamie Mitchell was 2 for 4 from the plate.
Aaron Vaughn (2-1) earned his second win of the season on the mound, pitching all ten innings, giving up only 8 hits and walking 2 batters.
“Aaron Vaughn was very impressive today,” head coach Tim Onofei said. “He had four pitches that he could throw for strikes and kept a good offense quiet in game one.”
In game two, the Crusaders fell 6-2 against the Wildcats.
After a 5-run first inning by the Wildcats, the Crusaders scored their only two runs in the fifth inning.
Logan Parker was 3 for 4 from the plate to lead the Crusaders. Fernando Robles went 1 for 2 with an RBI.
