Ramapo trips Western New England in 10 innings for fifth consecutive win
WINTER HAVEN, Fla. -- Thanks to a Western New England error in the 10th inning, No. 13 Ramapo defeated the 12th-ranked Golden Bears 7-6 in extras.
The Roadrunners improved to 7-1 overall while the Golden Bears fell to 6-3 overall.
After falling down 2-0 after the first inning, Ramapo eventually came back to knot the game at three. The Golden Bears took a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the sixth on a Ramapo error.
The Roadrunners responded in the top half of the seventh with an RBI single from Christian Spurr to tie the game at four. Later that inning, Ramapo took the lead 6-4 on sophomore Chris Werr's two-run double.
In the eighth, the Golden Bears tied the game at six apiece with an RBI single from Matt Anthonis and an unearned run on a passed ball.
In the top of the 10th inning, with Joe Venturino on second base, John Capuano hit a groudout to second base to advance the runner to third with two outs. Pinch hitter Kevin Kelly provided the eventual game-winning run when he put a ball in play that shortstop Kyle McKelvey couldn't handle for an error, scoring Venturino from third.
Sophomore Mark Doyle got the final three outs in the bottom half of the 10th to seal the Roadrunners' fifth consecutive win.
