USC Aiken stretches win streak to eight, musters 16 hits in rout of North Georgia
DAHLONEGA, Ga. -- Eighth-ranked South Carolina Aiken (23-5, 10-3 PBC) claimed its eighth consecutive win with a 13-2 Peach Belt Conference victory against North Georgia (9-16, 3-7 PBC) on Friday at Bob Stein Stadium.
USC Aiken opened the game by plating four runs in the top of the first inning.
The Pacers did not let up the rest of the game en route to an 11-run victory. USC Aiken scored six of its 13 runs in the top half of the sixth inning.
Six Pacers had multiple hits with Branden Millhouse, Bill Gerstenslager and Ryan Metzler each securing three hits in the game.
Millhouse was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI for the Pacers.
Gerstenslager finished 3-for-5 with three runs scored and one RBI. Metzler was 3-for-5 with two RBIs and one run scored. Metzler has now hit safely in 13 consecutive games.
In the midst of a 15-game hitting streak, Gerstenslager belted a home run in the game.
USC Aiken's Ty Barkell, Ben Donath and Josh Miller each concluded the victory with two hits.
Miller had three RBIs and a run scored in the game, while Donath scored two runs and drove in another two.
Barkell, with his two hits, has now hit safely in 19 consecutive games.
Jake McCurry and Kenny Bellavance led North Georgia in its loss with two hits each.
USC Aiken starting pitcher Ryan Milewski earned the win on the hill for the Pacers. Milewski (3-2) struck out four in his five innings on the hill.
North Georgia starter Taylor Keinat allowed 12 runs in his four innings on the mound for the Saints. He fell to 1-4 on the year.
