Lindenwood split its doubleheader on Wednesday with No. 3 Central Missouri, falling in game one 10-4 and winning an exciting game two by a score of 11-7.

In game one, the Lions jumped out to an early lead. Wade Rothermich led off the bottom of the first with a single and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Zach Kurzejeski. In an attempt to pickoff Rothermich, the Mules catcher threw the ball into shallow left field allowing Rothermich to score.

Mike Failoni had a bases-empty single and stole second base. Colton Moore followed with a walk and Nathan Prindle hit a double driving in Failoni and advancing Moore to third. Mike Wilson drew a walk and Central Missouri made a pitching change. Ryan Light earned an RBI by drawing a bases loaded walk. The Lions scored three runs in the inning but stranded three runners.

Central Missouri regained the lead in the top of the fourth scoring two runs to make it a 4-3 game. The Lions added a run in the sixth when Kurzejeski drove in Rothermich off a single.

Lindenwood could not keep it close in the seventh, giving up five runs and falling 10-4. Austin Klein struck out four batters and threw six innings, allowing five runs on six hits and five walks.

Game two started off slow for both teams until the fifth inning when things got exciting.

Lindenwood was down 2-0 entering the bottom of the fifth inning when Wilson led off with a single and was followed by a Kyle Leslie walk. Both runners moved up one base on a throwing error by the catcher in attempt to pick off Wilson.

Light walked to load the bases and each runner advanced a base on a wild pitch, including Wilson to score. Nick Kolley laid down a bunt down the third baseline perfectly as he reached on a fielder's choice and Leslie scored. Rothermich hit a two RBI double that brought in Kolley and Light. Kurzejeski hit a single, allowing Rothermich to score. After Kurzejeski advanced to second on a wild pitch, Failoni walked and Moore moved both runners up on a bunt. Kurzejeski then scored on a passed ball and the Lions had a 6-2 lead after five.

Central Missouri immediately responded with five runs in the top of the sixth inning on just two hits and one error by the Lions. Zac Pearman hit the first two batters of the inning.

The Lions added one more run in the seventh when Failoni doubled and scored on a single by Prindle.

The eighth inning provided some excitement from the Lindenwood offense. Light started the inning with a double and the next two Lindenwood batter got out. With two outs, Light advanced to third on a passed ball and Kurzejeski walked. Failoni hit a single to drive in Light. Moore reached on a fielder's choice to load the bases and force a pitching change. Next, Prindle reached on a throwing error by the shortstop, allowing Kurzejeski and Failoni to score and Moore to third. Wilson hit the ball to the pitcher, who booted the ball, which brought Moore in to score giving the Lions an 11-7 lead after eight.

Pearman threw a season-high nine innings en route to his fifth win. He struck out five batters in his 126-pitch complete game.

Failoni increased his hitting streak to 25 games after going 5-for-8 on the day with two doubles and the go-ahead RBI in game two. Rothermich finished the day with four hits and two doubles.
