Abramson stretches scoreless streak to 31.2 frames, Tampa bests Fla. Southern
LAKELAND, Fla. -- Third-ranked Tampa rolled past Florida Southern 6-1 behind a quality outing by senior starting pitcher Matt Abramson.
The win improved the Spartans' record to 26-6 overall, 10-3 in Sunshine State Conference matchups. The Mocs dipped to 14-17, 6-4 in conference play.
Abramson (6-0) started on the hill for Tampa, pitching six shutout innings. He has now maintained his unblemished 0.00 earned run average for a school-record 31.2 innings.
Junior outfielders Connor Obrochta and Michael Danner hit back-to-back home runs in the fifth inning. Center fielder Obrochta plated three Spartan runners with his homer, followed by Danner's solo shot to give UT a 4-0 advantage.
Catcher Adam Pendleton ended the contest with a 3-for-4 night as he was the only player to record multiple hits.
