Four-run ninth inning lifts top-seed Indiana past Valparaiso 5-4 in opener
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Chad Clark hit a two-run home run to cap a four-run bottom of the ninth inning for Indiana and lift the Hoosiers to a 5-4 win against Valparaiso in the first game of the NCAA Bloomington regional on Friday.
Clark, who committed a costly two-run error in the top half of the ninth, made amends for his mistake by hammering a pitch over the wall in left field. Clark was 2-for-4 with three RBIs.
Dustin DeMuth and Casey Smith also had RBI hits for the Hoosiers (44-14) in the comeback effort.
Indiana scored all four ninth-inning runs against Valpo closer Karch Kowalczyk, who had allowed only one earned run in 25 innings (0.36 ERA).
