Inghram's throws eight innings, William & Mary plates four in fifth to top Ole Miss
RALEIGH, N.C. -- Jason Inghram threw eight solid innings to lead William & Mary to its first NCAA tournament victory as the Tribe held on to upset Ole Miss 4-2 on Friday in the Raleigh Regional.
Inghram (9-6) allowed two runs and eight hits and struck out three to help the third-seeded Tribe (38-22) defeat second-seeded Ole Miss (37-23).
The Rebels brought the tying run to the plate with two outs in the ninth before closer Matt Wainman got Stuart Turner to fly out to left field to end it.
The Tribe scored all four runs in the fifth. Two runs scored when Jonathan Sarty's bases-loaded grounder rolled under third baseman Andrew Mistone's glove -- the Rebels' second error of the inning. That followed bases-loaded walks to Ryan Lindemuth and Ryan Hissey.
Mike Mayers (5-6) allowed four unearned runs with six walks in 4.2 innings for Ole Miss.
