Oberste's go-ahead single in fifth helps Oklahoma storm past Coastal Carolina
BLACKSBURG, Va. -- Matt Oberste's two-run single in the fifth inning gave Oklahoma the lead for good, helping the Sooners rally for a 7-3 victory against Coastal Carolina in an NCAA Blacksburg Regional game.
Oklahoma (41-19), the No. 2 seed, trailed 3-0 after the Chanticleers got two runs in the first and one in the second off pitcher Jonathan Gray.
But Gray, considered a top draft prospect, kept Coastal Carolina off the scoreboard for the rest of the game. Gray (10-2) pitched a complete game, giving up three runs (two earned) and nine hits. He struck out 11 and walked one.
Max White went 4-for-5 with two RBIs to pace the Sooners, while Oberste went 2-for-5.
The Chanticleers (37-22) got two hits and an RBI from Colin Hering.
