San Diego clinches 8-5 victory against Cal Poly in regional elimination game
LOS ANGELES -- Connor Joe, Austin Green and Troy Conyers each drove in two runs to lift San Diego to an 8-5 victory against Cal Poly in an elimination game Sunday in the Los Angeles Regional.
The Toreros (37-24) were scheduled to play UCLA on Sunday night, needing to win to force a championship game Monday.
San Diego broke the game open against Cal Poly (40-19) in the sixth inning by scoring four runs on only one hit. Conyers hit a two-run single and Austin Bailey and Joe each drew bases-loaded walks as the Toreros upped their lead to 8-3.
Jimmy Allen's two-run single cut San Diego's lead to 8-5 in the seventh.
Conyers (3-2) picked up the win and Max Homick got five outs for the save. Michael Holback (3-2) took the loss.
