For the second consecutive game, Mississippi State got out of a seventh inning jam and scored the eventual winning runs the next half inning. Trailing 3-2, Mississippi State's Chad Girodo got IU’s Michael Basil to ground out, but it advanced runners to second and third with two out. Girodo then struck out Dustin DeMuth, who looked at strike three to end the frame. The Bulldogs went on to score three in the top of the eighth to take a 5-3 lead.

Before the NCAA tournament began, Mississippi State relief pitcher Chad Girodo hadn't thrown more than 3.0 innings in any appearance this season. After his 6.1 innings of relief on Monday against Indiana, Girodo has thrown 17.2 innings in his three postseason outings. As if that wasn't enough, he's totaled 32 strikeouts during that span. Girodo moved to 9-1 after nearly closing out the Hoosiers in the ninth before yielding to closer Jonathan Holder with two outs.

"[Jonathan] Holder comes in, throws two pitches, two quality pitches, gets a save -- No. 20 -- doesn't move his feet when he throws the ball in the dirt to make everybody's heart stop. But we work on that a little bit, don't we, John? Every day."

Mississippi State senior Trey Porter may not get many chances to step to the plate, but he made the most of his opportunity in the Bulldogs’ come-from-behind 5-4 victory against Indiana on Monday.
