Take a look back at eight standout memories during the CWS
History was made at the 2013 College World Series, with UCLA winning its first national title. However, there were many moments leading up to the final game that should not be forgotten. Take a look back at some of the best moments in Omaha.
Mississippi State 5, Oregon State 4 -- Box | Recap | Highlights
In Game 1 of the College World Series, Mississippi State rallied in the eighth inning to snag an impressive 5-4 victory against Oregon State. As it turned out, the comeback allowed Mississippi State to advance all the way to the CWS Finals.
NC State 8, North Carolina 1 -- Box | Recap | Highlights
NC State garnered attention when the Wolfpack upset No. 1-seed North Carolina during Game 2 of the College World Series, winning 8-1. Pitcher Carlos Rodon threw his fourth complete-game victory off the season, allowing the single run in the ninth inning.
UCLA 2, LSU 1 -- Box | Recap | Highlights
Many were stunned when UCLA pushed past LSU after two unearned runs were scored off of LSU errors. The game-winning run came in the eighth inning when LSU freshman shortstop Alex Bregman booted a routine ground ball hit by Eric Filia with two outs and a runner on second. UCLA went on to win the College World Series, while LSU was eliminated from the tournament after falling to North Carolina.
Oregon State 1, Indiana 0 -- Box | Recap | Highlights
Oregon State had been struggling throughout the series to cash in on runs, but they managed to pull off one score in the fourth inning and hold Indiana at bay with a 1-0 victory in Game 9. Beavers pitcher Matt Boyd pitched a complete-game shutout with 121 pitches while striking out 11 and allowing just four hits and three walks.
North Carolina 7, NC State 0 -- Box | Recap | Highlights
North Carolina exacted revenge against NC State by shutting them out 7-0 in the teams' second matchup during the CWS. In a controversial play, NC State's Brian Holberton somehow avoided the tag from catcher Brett Austin to give the Tar Heels a 1-0 lead. The Tar Heels only gained momentum from there.
Mississippi State 4, Oregon State 1 -- Box | Recap | Highlights
Mississippi State continued its run against Oregon State by knocking the Beavers out of the tournament with a 4-1 victory. In the bottom of the fifth inning, Hunter Renfroe blasted a three-run home run into the left-field bullpen to give the Bulldogs a lead they would never relinquish. With the win, the Bulldogs earned their first trip to the CWS Finals.
UCLA 3, Mississippi State 1 -- Box | Recap | Highlights
Despite low scores in its games, UCLA kept its competitors at bay with stellar pitching. The first game of the College World Series Finals was no exception, with David Berg breaking the NCAA single-season saves record with his 24th against Mississippi State.
UCLA 8, Mississippi State 0 -- Box | Recap | Highlights
UCLA swept Mississippi State to take its first College World Series victory. The Bruins won their 109th overall NCAA championship and finished the season 49-17. The Bruins went through the regionals, Super Regionals and CWS with a 10-0 record. Mississippi State ended its season with a 51-20 mark.
