Wisconsin-Stevens Point hands No. 10 Rowan first loss in 12-10 slugfest
AUBURNDALE, Fla. -- Fifth-ranked Wisconsin-Stevens Point handed 10th-ranked Rowan its first loss of the season by a 12-10 score on Tuesday afternoon at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational.
The Pointers (6-1) and Profs (6-1) combined for 22 runs on 21 hits in the game. In a game that saw four lead changes, Wisconsin-Stevens Point scored four runs in the fifth and five more in the sixth to dig out of a 5-2 hole and build a 12-6 lead after the middle innings.
Kyle McHugh, Brandon Kranz, Taylor Carlson and Cody Hanke each had two hits for the Pointers. Hanke led the way, going 2-for-3 with a home run, two runs and four RBI.
Wisconsin-Stevens Point took the lead in the fifth inning as Hanke drove in Carlson and Kranz with a three-run home run. The Pointers then scored on a hit by pitch, a run-scoring single by Kranz, a walk by Carlson, a sacrifice fly by Hanke and an RBI single by Harry Steldt in the five-run sixth.
Cam Seidl picked up his second win of the young season, going seven innings on the mound. After a complete game shutout in his first start, Seidl gave up nine runs but had plenty of run support. Zach Wendorf recorded the last five outs to earn the save.
The second game of the scheduled doubleheader was postponed due to rain.
