ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — Flagler knocked Augusta State from the ranks of the undefeated Wednesday night, upending the third-ranked Jaguars 76-70 in overtime at Flagler Gym.
ASU dropped to 11-1 overall and 3-1 in the Peach Belt Conference, while the Saints improved to 8-3 and 2-1 in the league.
Jaguar senior forward Franck Ndongo netted a career-high 24 points and eight rebounds in the losing effort. George Johnson and Travis Keels turned in 12 points each and Caleb Brown chipped in 10. O’Neal Armstrong dished out a career-best 10 assists and snagged three steals.
Five Saints, led by Kenny Moore’s 18 points, scored in double figures. Eddie Fowler had 16, John Pietkiwicz notched 15, Chad July booked 14 and D.J. Ferguson registered 11 points and 17 assists. July and Moore logged double-doubles with 15 and 11 rebounds, respectively.
In a tale of two halves, ASU shot 56 percent from the field in the first 20 minutes en route to a 40-30 halftime lead. Flagler countered with 61 percent shooting in the second half and limited ASU to just 26 points and 36 percent shooting.
The Saints, who outscored the Jags 42-22 in the paint, hit 6-of-9 free throws in overtime while ASU connected on just 1-of-6 field-goal attempts in the extra frame.
The Jags matched their season low with just seven turnovers and connected on 12-of-14 free-throw attempts (85.7 percent).
ASU looks to bounce back at PBC-foe Francis Marion on Saturday, Jan. 8 at 3:30 p.m., in Florence, S.C.
