Louisville forward has missed season, now needs surgery

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Louisville forward Jared Swopshire will have surgery to repair an injured groin and will miss the rest of the season.
The junior has been out since August with the injury. Coach Rick Pitino said Swopshire had not improved at all in recent weeks. Swopshire will have surgery in Philadelphia later this month. He is expected to return to athletic activities about two months after the procedure.
Pitino has said repeatedly there are no plans to redshirt Swopshire. He averaged 7.5 points and 6.1 rebounds as a sophomore for the Cardinals in 2009-10.
