No. 6 Findlay handles No. 11 Hillsdale
Big second-half leads Oilers past Chargers in GLIAC showdown
HILLSDALE, Mich. -- Findlay, ranked sixth in the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) poll, defeated No. 11 Hillsdale 77-68 on Thursday, January 20 in Hillsdale, Michigan. The win gives the Oilers a 15-1 record on the season with a 8-1 mark in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).
The Oilers and Chargers battled to a 31-31 tie at halftime, but Findlay came out in the second half and made big shots and timely defensive stops to secure their 23rd consecutive win against Hillsdale.
Junior guard Kyle Caiola led four Findlay players in double figures with 18 points on 5-of-7 shooting. He also added four assists, three rebounds and two steals in the victory.
Sophomore forward Jack Smith added a season-high 16 points, hitting 3-of-4 three point attempts in the game to go along with an overall 5-of-9 performance from the field.
Sophomore guard Aaron Robinson (11) and senior guard Nathan Hyde (10) rounded out the Oilers double digit scorers.
Freshman guard Sean Samsel nearly reached double figures, scoring nine points off the bench.
The Oilers shot 50 percent (23-of-46) from the floor and drilled 11-of-21 (52.4%) shots from behind the three point line.
The Chargers meanwhile shot 44.6 percent (25-of-56) from the field, but hit only 6-of-18 (33.3%) three point shots.
Brad Guinane led Hillsdale with 15 points and seven rebounds while Tyler Gerber registered 13 points and eight assists.
The Oilers will be back in action again on January 27 when they face Lake Erie College at 6 pm in Painesville, Ohio.
