KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Southwest Minnesota State University men’s basketball team is ranked 19th in the latest NABC/Division II Coaches Poll released Tuesday afternoon.  SMSU received 47 points in the poll.  It is the first time since Dec. 3, 2001, the SMSU men’s basketball has cracked the NABC/Division II Top 25.

This marks the ninth time SMSU has been ranked in the Division II Top 25 in school history.  SMSU made its first-ever appearance in the national poll at No. 21 on Jan. 22, 2001, and spent seven straight weeks in the Top 25, moving as high as No. 4 on Feb. 26, 2001, before finishing ranked ninth in the final poll.  SMSU was ranked No. 18 in the first regular season poll during the 2001-02 season but spent just one week ranked.

The Mustangs are currently 4-0, coming off a 78-73 win over Division I at the University of North Dakota last week after finishing 3-0 at the Disney Classic against three teams that reached the NCAA Tournament last winter.  SMSU’s wins at Disney included a 79-65 victory over preseason-ranked No. 24 Fort Lewis (Colo.).

Southwest returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 29, at the NSIC HoopsFest with a non-conference game against Augustana.
